I've been trying to find out salaries for local (not expatirate) people working in Thailand and India. Can you point me to the right info or give insight? I've tried Google etc. but have not been successful. Please help. Salary level for: 1. Avg. Secretary in Thailand and India... 2. Organic chemist in Thailand and India... I tried monster jobs, etc. but most of the jobs were for computer something or the other and mostly US companies who would provide US salaries in the USofA. Any help is appreciated.

As a start, a cashier at a supermarket will make maybe 5000 baht/month, max. A bus driver in Bangkok about the same.

Can only comment on the cost of a secretary in Thailand, but I've been led to believe that I can hire a competent English-speaking secretary for around 20-25k baht a month. Seems like a good deal to me. I understand that less qualified, Thai speaking, small company type secretaries might earn only 10-12k

Google, nooooo, really? Google, what's that? Never heard of it. Anyway, I checked the site and it didn't help much. Anyway, BK's links gave me the most accurate figures. It seems Thailand is a lot more expensive than China and India... esp. India when it comes to competent (English speaking) secretaries.

Ahhh the old offshore debate huh? Well one part of my operating model is to offer offshore services from Thailand to US/Europe. I agree India and certainly China can outcompete Thailand on salaries, just. However there is more to it that just salary. In India, you may have to build your offices, your sat link, run the power to your building etc. Depending on your business..you may have to deal with the stigma against the movement of services to India (an unacceptable yet harsh reality). So then language....Indians generally speak superior English than Thai and Chinese. The Thais that I employ all speak fluent English however so this is not an major problem. Bottom line, costs in Thailand are more than India. But there is a glut of services already in India and costs there have increased several fold since the phenomenon began. Thailand offers an alternative that is more acceptable to many people looking for offshore services. It works for me anyway. Contrary to many people's opinion, I found the Board of Investment very easy to deal with and have given me many incentives....eg tax breaks etc. oh btw I employ a fluent english speaking Thai administrator/secretary for 11k THB a month. She is great and deals with calls from USA every day with no problem. Chok Dii
