I recently bought a Condo in BKK and opened an account with Bangkok Bank in order to transfer money in from overseas.
I asked them to set up a standing order to another Bank in BKK to send monthly payments on the aforementioned Condo and was told they do not transfer money from BKK Bank to other banks!!! Anyone know which bank will do this and what type of account I will need to set up.
I've tried Bank of Asia but was told I need a work permit.

The only thing I can say is that Bangkok Bank is paying our monthly standing order transfers to another Bank, as they pay our electricity bills. The account is under my wife's name.

It took me (my wife actually) about an hour to fill out the forms, but for the last 6 years never missed one payment.

This service is defenately available.
The only question is, is this service also available for foreigners, that I don't know.

Hope somebody can help and have better information.

Mr Alan
Usually automatic withdrawals are initiated by the company who receives the funds, unless it is a wire-transfer which is initiated by the sending bank (but it costs money for the wire transfer). In most cases, automatic withdrawal arrangements are made where there is sufficient volume of activity to justify setting up the auto payment. Banks will not ordinarily do automatic withdrawals for small companies or individuals, especially since the risk of fraud is higher.

If the mortgage lender is the bank itself where you want the funds sent, ask them if they will make auto-payment if you open an account at that same bank. If the mortgage company is not the bank, but just has an account at that bank, ask the mortgage company if there are any banks that they know of that do automatic payment for their mortgage payments.

Many banks in the US offer a automatic check writing feature where they mail a paper check to whomever you want on a recurring (or one time) basis. I don’t know if banks in Thailand have this feature, but you might try Citibank in BKK.

Don't confuse a wire transfer with an automatic withdrawal. Not the same thing.

I have internet banking with Bangkok Bank.
But they will not let me transfer to my account at another bank via internet. Only can make payments to BB accounts and a large list of known merchants like DTAC, TOT, Asianet, etc.

I can do it at the ATM at the bank, but I am limited to 30000B/day.

I would think a letter of instruction to the bank manager should be enough to allow a sub 30,000B transfer but I have not tried it yet.

Mr Alan
You can do a wire transfer between banks, but you will have to pay a fee for that.

But for an "automatic" withdrawal (one-time or recurring) a bank is under no obligation to send money to another financial institution.
