Just wondering what can I read into the fact that a freelancer I went with and sending money to [sometimes] actually has a visa card.
It is one of those kind that does not give credit but requires money to be in the account.
It just struck me that a poor girl from issan may not be the most likely person to have one of these cards?

It's the new millennium and these BG have enough experience with foreign chumps sending money that they have embraced the wonderful world of electronic money transfer.
Do yourself a favor. Stop throwing money away.

Actually, it's more likely to be a Visa Electron card.. not a credit card as such, just an ATM/debit card with a visa brand logo on it.
Nothing specially pertinent about an isaan girl having one of them. Aren't they standard issue with bank accounts in LOS. Even temporary visitors opening a savings account can have one.

jacob, you might be surprised to see how "poor" some of these isaan girls are.
and that would be besides her house, which she already built...
btw. you go to kasikorn, you deposit 100 baht, pay a 50 baht fee and you get a visa electron.

It is pretty easy for a thai to get a credit card now, my missus has one (damn!) and she doesn't work, Ihave one but I had to deposit the balance of the card 1st and as the othe guys say debit cards are many over there now.

You're lucky! Bangkok Bank charges 250B for two years for an ATM card. I thought they'd throw me out the bank and not let me open an account because I couldn't stop laughing so hard when they told me.

This helps alright. I dont mind helping someone but heck Idont want to be funding someone who is just greedy and has more than enough of her own.
My initial point was that because it was not credit card as such maybe it was no big deal in Thailand to have this kind of card.
