Hi
Finally got my shiny new work visa. I opened an account at Bangkok Bang for last few months which has been fine. They gave me a Be1st card (Visa) however it has no CCV2 number on the back so cannot be used online or phone ordering. Now I have my work visa, can I get a better debit card from bangkok bank that supports internet / phone ordering ? Or is there a better bank if you have work visa. I was thinking Citibank if any ?

I have no seen any "electron visa" with numbers on the back. You need a real credit card and you will not get that untill you have some security I guess or worked some years.

My Standard Chartered Visa Electron has the CCV2 numbers on the reverse of the card.

And why not just get a credit card? They are easy to get nowadays. Both my SCB credit cards have CCV2 numbers on the back.

Is the Siam card a Visa Debit card or a credit card. I have been told two stories on getting credit cards in Bangkok. One group say impossible, you have to have lived here LONG time. Other say walk into Central dept store and they give you if you have 3 months bank statements (which I have).

Are your name / numbers "embossed" on the card or printed ? Have you tried to use the card online ?

One other question. If your work visa expires, do you lose the bank account ? Is the bank informed ?

Q1. No, I have never in 16 years had a name on a Thai ATM / debit card.
The numbers are also not embossed.
I have no need to shop online so I haven't tried.
When work visa expires, I have never lost an account yet.
