Just came across this first hand today.
I've heard it mentioned before in relation to Sawasdee.com, but today I experienced a different take on it from Thai Airways.
My bill was 20,000B or so.
When the credit card slip came, they had converted it to GBP at a rate of 66.48 (todays rate at xe.com is 69.04), and the amount was there in GBP.
At the bottom of the bill in small print it said:
please debit my account with the total amount in GBP I acknowledge I have the choice to pay in THB
I then asked the sales assistant to Void that transaction and to charge me in THB where I will get a proper credit card company exchange rate. The approximate loss was 14 GBP
She did without fuss....but beware...this is obviosly the next loophole designed to boost profits.

Back on "topic" I just got back from LOS and letter number 134 was from Citibank regarding my "master card".
Quote : It has been ascertained that your credit card has been used in what has be established to be a possibly compromised premises. As the security of your card is paramount please contact thios office to have your card cancelled and a replacement card issued".
DAMMM,,, but I don't see any unexpewcted charges???
Better safe than sorry so cancelled today.
I wonder if it was "Shark bar" in Soi cowboy or than restaurant around the corner....LOL.

I use XE.com but dont forget that they show the "mid-price" - buy and sell rates will be either side of that so your 66.48 is not that far off the mark. Cash rate as of Sunday was around 67
Anyone wanting to see "real time" exchange rates - I have added the XE Currency Converter to my site with the Baht at the top of the list for ease of use (helps you poor old hung-over types I hope)
