kman, one thing to note. If your PIN number has more than 4 digits, then stay away from Bank of Asia's atms. They only accept 4 digits, no more. If you are going to withdraw from your US bank account (i.e. not credit card), make sure that you have the Cirrus or Plus system. You can see the logos here. http://bangkoktonight.com/info/atm_cards.shtml BK

im covered there, thx i just called citibank USA, and they said their branches in BKK are not connected to the USA, so in order to have fully functional banking in BKK with Citibank, one must open an account there.... Does anyone know offhand any places giving traveler checks alongside some sort of frequent flier mileage?

I use my US Citibank ATM card all the time in Bangkok. Just look for any machine with Cirrus or Plus sign on it. You are generally limited to the amount authorized per transaction by your bank company, but sometimes they ATM's banks limit you. Usually you can only use your card once per 24 hour period. If you can find an ATM machine for your bank, like Citibank or HSBC, then your limit is that of your card. Citibank machines in Bangkok are few and far between.
