Can't say I would do that - sounds as if you could be asking for trouble and I was not aware that the Thai Banking system allows a credit card transaction over the phone - you have to be there
At least that was what I was told a while back in a Phuket hotel I was trying to book for a friend
Anyone else have info on this

A "hard swipe" CC transaction is more secure for the seller than another sort. Basically the card holder can very readily request a chargeback for a non-jard-swipe transaction, while for a hard swipe, the merchant can be pretty sure of getting his money.
Hard swipe = pass the card through a POS terminal card reader and the card holder signs the slip.
The problem in Thailand is massive CC fraud, 10% of the world's CC fraud happens here. So minimize card use and I wouldn't be faxing any numbers around if I were the cardholder.

A few days before I leave for Thailand. I call my bank and credit card company. I give them the dates I'm travelling and where I'm traveling and when I'm returning. They enter this on my record and when the security program the companies use kick my account out, they check my record and don't block my card. As CJ said; there's alot cc fraud in Thailand. I've never had a problem so far.

I'm hadn't heard ( but am not not surprised at) the 10% figure that CJ mentioned. What I do know is that BKK was at one time the #1 city in the world for prevalence of CC fraud. Do you know if that is still the case CJ?

I don't know for sure, MrJoe, and I may be just regurgitating old factoids, but it ought to be fairly easy to find out.
Anyone else have current hard facts on CC fraund worldwide and Thailand's share of same?
