Hi I need to draw on the wisdom and experience of the group.
I am currently living and working abroad, middle east to be presice. I have taken many holidays in Thailand and enjoyed it thoroughly. With no desire to return to the UK at the moment I am looking to spend 6mths+ in Thailand from Jan/Feb 03 with a view to relocating there. With the initial six mths in mind any advice on how to go about this would be welcomed. I would be looking to rent apt/condo for the 6mths+ up to 20,000B/mth. Fast internet access is essential, as I am not aware of cable internet in Thailand I would need direct phone line capable of supporting ADSL. Am looking for input specific to Bangkok, Pattaya, or Phuket

Sorry dude too much waffle on my part.
10,000 - 20,000B/ mnth realistic for central Bkk, Pattaya, Phuket ?
Better to use some sort of property agent or do it yourself?
Anybody know of good source of property info newsletter etc?
Are direct phone lines common to apt/condos? for example here most apt blocks have an exchange 5 lines come into the block to serve 10 apts sometimes more
ADSL availability, Bkk, Pattaya, Phuket?
As ADSL degenerates with distance from exchange if anyone is familiar with it what areas are good service?

Rt, You could get yourself a one room studio apartment, starting from 7,000 B onwards, in Sukhumvit area. Some apartments allow you to install direct lines, you have to ask them.

Where I stay they allow you to install your own phone line..
rent is 6,700 per month and it is a newer building..
problem is they are booked pretty solid..

- For bangkok, think it pays to be near a shopping center and especially a skytrain station, ; so jump on the skytrain and get off at each station, and personally check out all places in the area, for me I ended up near Victory Monument, 2 stops to MBK, 5 stops to Nana - and about half the price of the same place in Sukhumvit 1-55. Did also see some great 2 bedroom places for 13,000 bt at Fair Tower, opposite the Tesco dept. store, at the Onnut Skytrain station - like most things in Bangkok, they are all out there, just take a bit of finding at times !

Be aware that Broadband is in its beginning stags in Thailand.
It is not available throughout the whole of Bangkok and if it is don't expect throughputs as in the US or Europe.
Count on 128/64 or 256/128.

adsl from 500 THB a month 25 000 will keep you kicking for a normal life but not with upclass escort service and gogo life, apartments can be find for 2000 THB if you ask some thai local as they say UP TO YOU
