Hey, a warning to you all. I just received a call from my bank today about charges made to my credit card in Bangkok. Since I am in the US we determined immediately that someone had made a counterfeit card. The only place I used this card on my last trip to LOS 3 weeks ago was at the Landmark Hotel -- so be forewarned!!!!!!!!!!!! There really isn't much you can do if you are careful. The Landmark is supposed to be a 5 star hotel, but you can never trust anything too much. It just takes one guy behind the desk to make a copy and sell it...

Bangkok was at one time not long ago and may still be #1 on the list of credit card fraud statistics.

Sup': I am shocked that it happened at the Landmark hotel. Stayed there many times!! Anyways, this is why I always carry two credits cards with me to BKK. One I only use one card on the hotel. The rest of the time I use cash to pay for everything else. I also alert the credit card company that the only charge on the card should be from "the hotel I'm staying at". All other charges should questions and not authorized. This helps in keeping the credit card fraud down to a mininum. I keep the second card as emergency back-up. Started doing this after a buddy of mine had the same thing happened to his credit card. And we were on the same trip, so I've could've been me, had he not paid for that one item with his card. We traced the fraud back to a restaurant. Zzzz: That sucks. Good thing your credit card company called you!!

Yeah, my credit card company, Chase, was really on the ball. Caught it right away and stopped it. I don't believe I'm responsible for the charges made (about $800). I too am shocked that it could happen at a place like the Landmark. I'm unimpressed with that place (mentioned it on another thread). Too bad, as it is a great location and guest friendly...

zzzZ: I will have to look for your comments on the Landmark hotel in the other threads. I for one, have had no problems at this hotel and infact, always stay there. But, am interested to read what your opinion is. Yes. Good thing Chase was on the ball. My friends card was used 2 weeks after he was already home. And they hit up many different stores at once. Which is why it ran up RED flags for the credit card company. Seems they must've made a couple cards and gone shopping at the same mall or something. The damage on his card was close over 1,000 u.s before they could stop the charges from going through. To my knowledge, my friend was not responsible for any of it. But, we did give him some flack for not calling the credit card company and telling them he was back in the U.S. This would've stopped more of the charges sooner. oh well!!

Actually my charges started 2 weeks after I got back too. Maybe that's the lead time for making the counterfeit cards... It's strange because I use the card in Thailand and Indonesia nearly every month and they don't call me, but this time they did... When I went to the Landmark last time I booked online and prepaid. I arrived at night (about 9pm) to check in and was told they didn't have the room type that I had booked until the next night. They only had rooms with "no windows". I went up to one, and it was downright creepy. No window, just a big mirror where the window should have been. And, there was a utility room RIGHT NEXT TO THE BED leading to a service area. There was no way I would stay in that room, so I went downstairs, raised hell, and was given a normal room but told I would have to switch the next morning to a different floor. Well, I was jetlagged so slept kinda late (also had my TG with me the whole time). Woke up to jackhammering upstairs that was the most intense I've ever heard... shit was literally falling from the ceiling. So, had to pack up again, and move to another room. This time it was a decent room, nothing to complain about except it was smaller than most rooms I've had in BKK for the price. I don't want to sound racist, but there were also too many Middle Eastern people there for my taste. In fact the place was probably 5 to 1 from the Middle East during my time there. And, to top it off, they counterfeited my credit card from there. So, I ain't to happy with the Landmark. I guess I should make a formal complaint and see what they do about it, huh?

I used to live with a Thai girl that ran an escort business from her apartment ,whilst lying in bed with her one night the phone rang and an argument broke out over the phone ,my girlfriend then asked me to talk with the guy ,about a week before my girlfriend had arranged to meet and service this man at the Landmark Hotel ,my girlfriend arrived but late as always and he cancelled her ,she returned home ,The guy who was English explanined that someone had made charges to his card and he was blaming my Girlfriend ,I asked him did he give the card to my girlfriend ? No ,he answered ,so she never saw the card and doesn't know your name ,No he answered ,clearly an idiot ,I did ask where he used the card he replied the Landmark Hotel and a massage service ,I explained my girlfriend was not a big company and just worked with her friends and did not take credit cards and asked him to think as he must of used another service ,he applogised and said yes he got the number from the Bangkok post ,as my Girlfriend at that time did not advertise in the Bangkok post he was mistaken ,but clearly either an employee of the Landmark or The massage company had something to do with it.
