I hear I can get a refund on my VAT fees, I've saved all my receipts, how is this done? Where can it be done from? Any info would be great, thx

If anyone else knows better please correct me. The VAT refund is given to "tourists", I don't think formal "expats" are meant to get it. You can collect it on your way out of thailand. There are two offices at the airport (I forget what each is called), one that you go to in the outer area of the airport where they are supposed to inspect the goods (didn't happen) and check out the receipts. The other is in the interior, after you get in past ticketing, security, etc. and this is where you actually get the refund-- in baht.

They did actually inspect one expensive item of mine. So make sure you keep everything easily available in case they ask. Also make sure you get to the airport with extra time for this process. It took me only about 5 minutes the last time because there was no line (it also took 5 minutes walk to the office and 5 back), but if there is a line I can imagine it taking 1/2 hour. The good thing is that you do this after you're all checked in (which you should do at least an hour or two before your flight anyway).

If my information is correct, the outside office is for stuff that you have packed in your checkin baggage. They will inspect it before you check it in. The inside office is where you show stuff that you are carrying onboard with you and also to get refund.
In January this year I missed out on a refund because I had all my purchases in the checkin baggage and I went directly to the inside office.

You need to get a vat form filled and stamped by the shop where you buy the stuff. I had done most of my shopping from Robinson and they have a department that does it. I had it done on the same day that I did all my shopping. Not sure whether they will do it later.

Would they return in cash even though I purchase the stuff on my credit card? The thing is that I have never received my refund from Houston airport that was supposed to come to my credit card account a few months ago.

They will return in cash but I think you have to select that option on the VAT form at the time of purchase.
