I woke up to a call from credit card company asking me if I made a 10K USD purchase today from a department store in Thailand and a 1KUSD purchase from jewerley store. From my previous post's you know how frugal I am when I'm in Thailand. I gave my credit card to only one hotel in Bangkock. This was the SOL TWIN TOWERS. Someone there had to copy my card as I kept the card in the safety deposit box. I'm not responsible for the charges but what a hassle. What's interesting the theives know that I had a $15K credit limit and they had a fake card to swipe thru the card reader. According to cc company the reason they approved the sale was because I called them and told them I would be in Thailand on certain dates. I told them when I had called before the trip that I didn't want them to authorize any charges after I left! CC respose, we thought you still might be there.

With so many credit card fraud going on, it is the best never to use an ATM card as a charge card. And use it only at major banks (and at machines with a camera, if possible). With a credit card, at least the bank is looking after your back. But with a charge card, bank may just make you responsible.

I only use ATM card at a bank ATM. I never use at private ATM that you see at 7-11 in USA. Some crooks have set up phoney machine and capture your account info and PIN . Even by being careful you still can get ripped off.

BigDUSA and 69er is right. I got ripped off by independant ATMs in BKK and Pattaya............in total: 30000B! STick with big chains!

BigD they made a copy of my Visa card in one of the gold
shops in Pattaya. Seems they used the copy in Australia
to buy goods.Can you believe this??? They spent about
800 Euro. Anyway i am never using my card again in any small shop.I only used this card one time on my last trip
and Iam 100% sure who copied it. I gave the name of
the shop to the Bankcardcompany. I had a friend staying in Pattaya to go and check if that shop is still there, and guess what? Yep it's still there and its the same foureyed Chinese bastard working there.Seems they have no means to do anything about it.
Watch out Pattaya is dangerous.
