Wow that was stupid of me, i posted this in the anything else thread, i never even noticed this whole money matters area... so anyway any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated. I've heard recently that it is now possible to exchange chinese RMB in thailand for Thai baht. Is this true? does anyone know? In the past i have had to go through the trouble of changing RMB here to US dollars and then taking the US dollars to thailand or wherever it may be and exchange the us for the local currency. I get paid in RMB so it would be a great help to me if someone would let me know about this, i have recently heard it is possible now, but i'm not convinced. Thanks in advance.

I have changed Thai Baht to RMB at Bangkok international airport early November. Assume they other way around is possible as well. On previous occasions I was told that they did not have RMB's and I therefore changed Thai Baht to RMB in Beijing.

Metaliclink: I think the availability and popularity of any particular currency makes a difference on the exchange rate, especially at the airport. When I was at the Honolulu airport on my way to BKK in November, I was quoted a rate of US$1.00 to 36 baht (which was ridiculous) so I did not exchange for any baht until I arrived in BKK and was able to get 43 baht for US$1.00. You may be able to exchange RMB for baht in LOS; however, if the RMB is not a popular currency in LOS, you would be quoted a very poor exchange rate.

Thanks mm3 and Byron. I have 500 Aussie dollars, 200 US dollars and a few thousand RMB to take with me... so i spose i'll just hope for the best in cashing to RMb. Up until now its been "illegal" to take large sums of RMB out of china and was therefore impossible to exchange overseas. You could change any currency here for RMB but often not the other way around. oh well i guess i will find out. thanks again any more info is always welcome

Metaliclink: I have never been to the WTC (the BKK one), but according to my trusty map, it's the name of a shopping center located at the corner of Rama I and Ratchadamri and it is very close to the Chit Lom BTS station. Hope this helps.

Anyone-know-the-current (as-of-Feb.,2005) approximate-Chinese-RMB-to-Baht-exchange-rate-at-the-airport? (Sorry-for-the-hyphens.Space-bar-on-this-notebook-doesn't-work.) One-year-ago,the-rate-was-poor.RMB-was-about-6% (and-still-is) lower-than-the-HK-dollar,but-the-RMB-was-20%-lower-than-the-HK-dollar-at-the-airport-exchange. Has-this-improved?Thanks.
