There are exchange booths all over the place, specially the regular tourist areas like the beach road in pattaya and Sukhumvit rd. in bangkok. You shouldn't have any problems cashing them and most are open till late evening.

Dog TT is correct you will find locations all over the beach road in Pattaya. Most are open until 10 PM or later, also they will be open by 9 or 10 the next AM. If you have yet to arrive in the LOS then you will be able to change $$$ and or traveller checks at the airport on arrival. If you are already here, you will not have any problems finding a spot. On Sukhumvit there are plenty of Exchange booths with similar hours of operation.

On a side note about traveler's checks: I got a slightly better exchange rate with US$100.00 TCs than US$100 notes; however, I was charged postage and duty stamps on exchanging my TCs and ended up with a slightly lower rate than exchanging US$100 notes.

I usually carry enough US$ in cash to see me through for a few days (emergency money that I don't actually use) and my regular money is provided via my CC. If you withdraw at a bank branch, you normally don't have a problem and you just incure a minor currency conversion charge from your own bank. If you take out enough chash for a few days or for the week, these aren't anything to worry about and I also get the listed exchange rate from home. Works just fine so far.

I've been using TCs for years. Are you saying it is cheaper to live off ATM or CC?

I just checked my Citibank CC bill and found that they used 41.5 baht per US$ as their conversion rate. I could get 42.5 with a crisp US$100 bill. Yeah, it's only a 100 baht difference per US$100, but hey, it buys at least a beer at the Office.

Couple of questions since I have never used TC's and have no experience with them. 1) When you guys have got TC's, did you get them in Bhat or in your own country's currency? 2) Being from the U.S., is it possible for me to get TC's in GB pounds and cash/exchange them for Bhat since I can get more Bhat with British pounds than U.S.$ ?

SB1234: 1) My TCs were in US$. 2) If you live in the US, it would be easier to get TCs in US$. Most banks in the US do not sell British pounds TCs. Also, if your funds are in US$ to start, you will have to convert them to British pounds when you buy BP TCs, and convert again when you buy Bahts in LOS. You will probably end up with a worse exchange rate after converting twice.
