OK, before i rant on again, i don't want you to think I'm a cheap bastard, I'm not, I just hate having to work for a living, lol.
I really want to live abroad, what with the cost of living. £10,000 isn't a lot of money to save, not even for me, and I notice it buys a damn good apartment in Thailand, too good for my needs. So I was wondering are there apartments up for grabs around the £5000 mark, in Bangkok? If I could secure one this cheap then I'd really give consideration to teaching English, or at least try. 12 hours a week teaching sounds like my cup of tea

I must say I don't know the apartment prices in Bkk, but
I have looked at lots of condos around the Pattaya area
and have never found anything decent for £10,000 or
less.  Have you actually looked at the apartments
advertised for that price or did you just see the ads?

If they're really 'damn good', please let me know where
you found them

i am looking to buy in bangkok right now, but did not found anything decent for even GBP 20,000 yet.
the average price for a decent location and building is about thb 50,000 - 80,000 / sqm.
unless you really want a tiny studio outside sukhumvit 100 up, this money hardly does not buy you anything decent!

hi

outside bangkok, (lamlukka or rangsit). buys you a new little house for 800'000.00.

so an older place should be cheaper.

many schools and universities nearby (thammasat, ruamrudee and german swiss school).

best regards.

You could buy a 32m2 newish cond in Laoprah
for around GBP5,000. But reckon on spending
at leat GBP500 per m2 for anything in the
Sukumvit areas, this is only the start and as
stated above GBP1,000+ for newer well located
condo's.

have seen a few nice homes in large complex's out bangna way, that you can get into for almost nothing, and pay off at 5-10,000bt per month ..... problem is you would spend that much in taxi fares getting to and from Nana etc.

If you're going to live here (for more than a year), I'd advise buying. Ý I see guys paying 10-50k a month in rent. ÝWell at the end of a few years you could have purchased a condo (decent will vary for every person on the board). Ý But what won't vary is that the person who buys will have something to show for it vs. the person who rents. Ý

If you die in a viagra induced orgy, you might not be discovered for months in your OWN home.... but if you're renting, your corpse would be thrown out at the end of 30-45 days. Ý Something to think about.

ah, the ever cynic packripper!

the only problem is as a farang you will have to look in the english written ads and there is teh surcharge again as i am sure a thai/thai property transaction will be at another price than a farang / thai transaction!

For 500,000 bht you can find decent studios in Sukhumvit 60+ or Ladprao. But the same studios can be rented for less than 4000 bht so I am not sure it is a good investment for a non-resident.
You also have to consider that cheap condos (most condos ?) are very poorly maintained and your brand new condo will look like shit in 10-15 years time, very difficult to resell.
