Not stupid at all. A lot of folks go to massage parlours to do business AND whatever else. For my group of friends, it's often where our monthly "share" club meets, and we change the venue each time and make a VIP day/evening of it.
For others, they might do so to run their sportsbooks, underground lotteries, etc. and blow off some steam or get blown in the process.  It's one of the few places where the owners know in advance if there's going to be a raid.
By that reasoning it would be stupid to go to the country club and not play golf or tennis. It's just a venue like any other.

You know, I think we just hit on one of the main themes why farangis don't enjoy lounges. All they care about is the sex. Wham, bam, I am outta here....
For the asians, it's more about the experience. Massage parlor or lounge. Sit down, chat with the girl a bit, not like it matters much, but get to know her a bit, nice massage maybe, then to the boof. A whole nice experience around it.
For my part, and not to be too direct about it, maybe it's about treating them as people as opposed to just another hole to stick your dick into.
That probably explains 90% or all the bad experiences talked about on this board. Not even anything about money and all that, it's about enjoy the whole experience about it. Okay, communications is part of it too, and like said before, especially at many of the local places, girls are afraid to deal with farangis. They just can't communicate and don't want to have to struggle in what is a pretty intimate situation, ho or not.
Sure, you can go to a club and try and find a girl to talk to and all that. But hey, maybe it's just about blowing off some steam instead of just blowing your load all the time. The girls at the massage parlor or lounges are kinda like western bartenders in a way, they can be there to listen and be nice about it. The girl you might meet at a club? High chance she probably wouldn't give a crap and would just blow you off instead.

Well, I wouldn't go as far to say the divide is that clear. Westerners certainly like to go to go go bars to 'pretend' like they are "picking up" gals. So there's the talk/conversation entertainment value there also. Plenty of Asians go to MPs and don't care if the girls have anything to say or not. So it's really not a clear cut line either way I think.

I tend to agree with VSoCal. I'm 55 and certainly not handsome. Between my age, appearance and being a Farang, that can be a strike-out in many circles.
Don't remember now whether it's been 11 triips or 12, but I can only recall being turned down by a TG once. That was at Angel Witch. No problem. I can only recall one bad experience, and heck, we're only talking about 90 minutes anyway. She was angry because I came too fast.
I have never experienced a rude mamasan or papasan. In fact, we almost always have some good laughs. I'm a balding blonde with green eyes. You can't become much more farang than that. But, I've never once been dealt a
surcharge.
I've had beautiful women beg to marry me, only 18 to 25 years old, even though I don't even own a house. I cannot possibly achieve wealth in this lifetime. So, it sure isn't money they want to marry for.
TG's have gone with me from Rainbow and other places who tell me that they usually don't go with farangs, but they were intrigued by me. Not one has ever seemed to regret it.
I can't think of a single LT date that didn't wake up the next morning and offer another healthy dose of sex. Certainly never an extra charge. I've done it 8-10 hours non-stop at times.
No, this is not about bragging. Not in any way, shape or form. At home, in the US, my self-confidence on a scale of 1 to 10 is barely hovering over the 1 mark. In fact, maybe I could define myself better by including "0" in the scale. Sad, but true.
So, what is it I'm claiming? What's the similarity between VSoCal and me? A genuine smile, respect (yes, actual respect for a prostitute) and a sense of humor. It really can be that simple. The patterns I've experienced in this many trips cannot amount to a complete fluke.

Packripper gave a good explanation - in asian cultures it seems lounges, go go bars, and MPs provide a valid backdrop for meeting, conducting business, etc... for many of the reasons Packripper outlined

Yeah, I have a couple of friends, who invariably when we go to an MP, are done in 30-40 minutes, and can't understand why I take so long (the full 90 minute, or longer), or why I prefer sitting down with several girls at the start to buy them drinks, chat, etc...

Hate to bring this back on topic, but I went to PP yesterday. Arrived 1:30pm, 3 girls in the bowl, papa very freindly and great english, explained Sunday was a quiet day, normally there are 30 girls in the bowl. When I left 2hrs later there were around 15 in the bowl, and an equal number of gents on the sofas.
Basically this place is a hotel, Fishbowl on the 2nd floor, Cocktail lounge in the basement and a coffee shop on the ground floor.
Prices, 1,500 for normal, 1,900 for VIP, indicated by the girl having a V in front of her number, and they sit on the right of the bowl.
Room was okay, it's a hotel room, TV, toilet wardrobe, very soft bed, small couch, 2 person bath tub.
Service was okay, nothing amamzing, BBBJ, GFE, FS couple of positions, wanted a nother round after about 20 minutes after the first one !
tipped 200 baht, she seemed very happy. Majority of clientele is Chinese & Thai, some Japanese, very few farrangs, although papa did mention a chap named Mr. Bruce, who is apparently a very nice farrang guy, fluent in Thai and an extremely frequent visitor.
If you live in town, don;t waste your time, hit Petchburi, Rachada or Rama 9, if you live in Bangna area, then this place isn't a bad option at all.
