Those would be PR (public relations) at Orbit who sit with you. Sales will sometimes sit with you even though it's not really their job to. PRs at Orbit would basically be called hostesses in most 'drink for time' establishments.
A cheer guest is the literal tranlation of what locals call papasans at MPs.

As Pack points out, tipping is a waste unless you plan to be a repeat customer. There are no magic benefits to be expected, but I do think it helps over the long haul if you cultivate one or two of the xxxxsans at the joints where you are a regular. I find they are more forthcoming with info on the girls... things like how many tricks they turn, their attitude, etc. I don't look for a "recommendation" from these sharks, but they can help.
I would never tip at the front end... only AFTER, and then only if satisfied with the service.

It has become more prevalent lately in some MPs that the cheer guests are demanding money from the girls.
If not paid -
1. no recommendations, or even advise against, i.e. less work; and
2. customers not screened.
If paid -
1. the girl is recommended, i.e. more work; and
2. customers the girl specifies she doesn't want (e.g. falangs, drunks....) are screened out. (She has booking).
Mostly the girls pay up but complain. The amount demanded tends to go up the better the girl is doing.
More prevalent in some MPs with particular cheer guests than others.
Much better to follow you own inclinations than these "recommendations", unless this cheer guest has established a good track record with you. Otherwise, you're likely to be an unwitting partner in the girls getting shaken down further.

What's worked for me is looking over the fishbowl and selecting two or three that appeal to you. Then I may ask the papasan to help make a decision among the finalists. I let him know that I may give him a tip (usually 200-300) if I like the girl. This has worked well for me and is especially useful if you return. If service is average, I definitely don't tip.

I went to a large MP with CCTV of the fishbowl and model lounge showing on two different channels on the TV in the room. The camera automatically pans to and fro showing close-ups of the available ladies mostly looking bored.
The girl in the room with me had, according to her, worked there 12 months.
So I asked her to pretend she was the papasan. What would she say to me when I arrived as a customer?
She liked this idea. She went up to the TV and, as the camera panned, she pointed out individual girls and gave me their CV.
“This one, she say 28 but really 33. She drive Benz. This one no work until 8 o’clock, have to take care baby before work. This one, today sick, have men. Her boyfriend policeman. This one go Macau next week. This one, three customers today.”
And I thought, goddam it, she’s giving me much more useful information than most papasans with their BS “Good service, big tits” lines.
