My 1st experience at Poseidon. Saturday, Oct 30, about 6:15 pm. What happened to the 1,000 baht foreigner surcharge for the 3rd floor? They didn’t charge me a surcharge.
I’m pretty sure Exit 4 was the correct exit at the Sutthisan MRT stop. Kinda important because it’s a long way up - the longest escalator I’ve seen. Looking down Ratchadaphisek, neon lights spelled “Poseidon” down the side of a building a block away. The walk from the MRT station was dimly lit, relative to Sukhumvit. When I got in, I was immediately asked to check in my backpack in a locker and given a key to the locker. Wow, this place was nice! How many stories in this building? It looked like about 10 to me. I asked the front desk where the girls were. They said 2nd floor and pointed to some stairs. I asked about the models. They said “Elevator, 3rd floor”. I took a peek at the fishbowl, then caught the elevator to the 3rd floor. I was a newbie and had no clue what to do here. When I exited, I saw a bunch of girls on a long couch on the right, dressed in elegant dresses. I followed 3 other guys and ducked into a toilet to gather myself. When I came out of the toilet, I was invisible. There were many times I wished I were invisible in Bangkok, but this felt weird. No one came up to seat me, offer me drinks, or sell me something. The other customers ignored me. Even the “models” on the couch ignored me. Wow, this was cool! I guess coming out of the toilet meant you knew where you were going, but I didn’t. I think I could have bumbled my way around the place and left and no one would have bothered me.
I finally approached a waitress and told her I was new here. She said “Wait 1 minute, I get Mama.” When Mama came, “She speak better English.” I deliberately told Mama “1st time here.” I asked her how much. She said “2900, 3500, 4500, and 5500, but no 5500 tonight”. I expected a models’ fishbowl, but there was none. The couch was it. It was dimly lit compared to the fishbowl, and if you don’t take a seat right in front of them (rather intimidating), then you need to gaze at them from across the abyss. They did not wear numbers - kinda like those expensive restaurants that don’t have the prices. I picked and girl and told Mama. “She 2900 baht.” Yes! I picked the cheapest one, and she was the cutest - like I won the lottery.
The service was ok, if not a little impersonal, as if she had done this too many times before. She got in naked with me in a warm bath in an extra large tub with continuous running warm water. She gave me a bath with hands for the front and a cloth for the back. The water was too warm right after a big, spicy dinner, and made me nauseous. She shampooed my hair 3 times, with different stuff, I assumed. After the routine 1 pop, she mentioned that tomorrow and Monday was Halloween, and they were “O-pen” as she made a book opening motion with her hands. Open? Since nothing is closed for Halloween in America, I assumed she was referring to the farang surcharge. I wasn’t billed a surcharge, even after making it clear this was my 1st time. “Free?” I replied. Now she was thoroughly amused. She giggled. “No, not free, but o-pen.” More giggles. So I guess I’m here to report that Poseidon is open for Halloween, but the girls are still not free. (Sorry, late notice.)
Later, I checked the girls in the fishbowl again. It was better lit, and some of the girls were just as pretty as the models. P031 said the best time to come is 4:00 pm. “Many ladies.”

There is definitely a surcharge. It's not accurate to call it a foreigner surcharge, but rather a farang surcharge. Are you part Asian or look it? In my experience, all farang and even some Asian Indians will get the surcharge. You will not get a surcharge if you're Chinese, Korean, Japanese or any of the other Asian nationalities.

If you're Asian you don't get a surcharge? We'll, I'm Asian and definitely look it. I've read on this forum about racist practices, but I've always been charged the farang price elsewhere (Wat Arun, Safari World, Crocodile Farm). I specifically asked a BG if I was considered a farang. She said, "Yes, but not one from Japan." Not sure what the significance of that was.
Along with my friends, we had 2 Japanese and 1 Caucasian, all American. One of the BGs noted that we had "One farang with us."

I would just classify prices you get at the Wat Arun, Safari World, Crocodile Farm as just local non-Thai prices. According to Papasans/Mamasans, the MP surcharges are for the girl and not the house. Not many MPs have a surcharge. It seems to me that only the high-end (Poseidon, Utopia) ones use this practice.
Did your Caucasion all American friend get charged a surcharge at Poseidon?
BTW - I'm Asian American and have never paid a surcharge at the MPs. I've never been called a farang by anyone in BKK.

Unfortunately, my friends didn't get to experience Poseidon. One was nursing a potential cold, and I just dragged the other through Chatuchak earlier in the day - not a good place for a large white guy who sweats a lot. I braved the 1st time Poseidon experience solo, like I do a lot of things in Bangkok.
At least I'm on the long end of the farang surcharge stick. But I don't think it is right. I always thought it was a means for the corporations to make as much money as they can off of everyone. Charge the rich people more and the poor people less for the same stuff. If it's based on whether you're Asian or not, that is racism.
In Hawaii, the hotels give people with local driver's licenses a small discount on hotel rates. We call it Kama'aina Rates. The hotels like Hilton set this policy (I think only on a space available basis) to encourge locals to use their facilitie$. You can be any race to get the discount - you just need a Hawaii driver's license.

It's a simple business decision without any kind of hate involved. The girls here work here know these policies and often are here because of these policies. Customers come here, typically with knowledge of these policies. It's preferences all around. Ever seen a club in the west with a "dress code" policy that seems to limit the amount, but not all, of black people in the club bothering the white folks? Same thing.
Whether that falls under "racism" in some dictionary is academic.
