OK, I think you need to understand that different places charge and provide different fees to the girls.
However, basically the common elements are this:
1. The girl receives nothing without entertaining customers
2. The girl must pay for her hair, makeup, outfit, soap, condoms, transportation to work etc - all of these are available from the parlour, but invariably buying themselves is cheaper, but MP girls and P4P in general are uneducated and lazy, therefore, many get makeup and hair and so on done in house - my guess is this would be at least 500b a night in the hole just for showing up; so I guess technically, yes a freelance contractor is needing 500b straight away to get "in the money". However, since a good girl can average at least 2-3 trips upstairs every night plus tips and up to 7 times a night, then the money is not so bad
3. The girl must pay for the cleaner in the room, leaving a tip for the "mair bahn" to clean up the mess
4. The cut for the girl varies considerably from the place to another place- at some it may be as high as 1000b out of 1800b, at others it may be as low as 500b per 2000b. It depends on the place, and to some extent the girl - at some of Chuwit's places when he was running them, certain girls were on better earnings than others, with their own targets and so on
5. Papasans don't make anywhere near 500b per visit - at least not in any of the bigger places - my guess is that they might be able to get this sort of amount with the tout approach - talking up certain girls and inflating prices and the like.... but mostly not. The bulk of the money goes to the MP itself. THink this through... 5 papasans looking after a fish bowl of 100 girls... each girl averages 2 trips upstairs a night = 2 X 100 X 500b = 20,000b per papasan per night?! I don't think so! This sort of salary would be massive by Thai standards - Oakweb was talking about the specific situation of a transfer from sideliner to fishbowl, not in general - in general these guys earn salary, plus tips from customers, plus some girls slip them something to recommend them - all up that is somewhere around probably 20,000b - 70,000b a month depending on the place, and level of that papasan/mamasan.
6. I know several girls who choose to be sideliners or fishbowlers, given the choice due to the earnings/noumber of times working tradeoff - sideliners work less and earn more - more volatility in earnings and so on - fishbowler good lookers can go say 4 times, sintead of 2; earning a little less each time, but still up overall
7. At many Thai places, sideliners can be invited to talk briefly downstairs, prior to selection. This makes life a little easier to judge - IMHO you won't get as good a service from a sideliner hardly ever - I have dated several in "gik" positions and even out of work with someone they like, most are fairly crap. Great looking and spoilt is how I would sum most up. Go with the lookers in the fishbowl; they know how to earn money

Agree with Waxhead. From my last visit few week ago, I pickuped 4 sideline (2200B) and 2 from Fishbowl (2000B) at Nataree, both Girls from Fishbowl gave me great service but only 1 sideline gave me great service (K38 only 21 y and speark good chinese).
I also pickup at least 6 sideline at J-One (2200B), only one provide good service (her name is June) all other 5 enjoy watching TV more than service. One of them ask for 1000B if I want a 2nd (No. 999). Two other girls that I pick from the fishlowl (1800B) 229 and 255 gave me very good service. No. 229 speak great english and Japanese.
To be fair, the sideline at Nataree and J-One are much younger and they all has great body.

It's a kicker..
I think it is great having the option. Sometimes one likes a great shag and then the real professional fishbowl ladies are the ones to pick.. they might be 30+ but so what.. they really know how to please a man.
Getting the young and cute (often a true newbie) is more of a challenge and she might be pretty, but often not that experienced. The major goodie with these girls is that it's not as automatic as with some fishbowl ladies.
