Harold,, I do believe it is you who works in a third world country,,, minimum wage here is about AUD$14:00 per hour but is reserved mainly for the lower 3% of workers,, we never agreed with slave labour. A hard working labourer can easily earn AUD$1,200 per week = about $910 of those green thingies. ( No tips)
Hookers here range around AUD$140 per hour,, NO tipping,,.
So Harry where you saying the guys over there working at McDonalds tip 5 days wages? I think not.

people overtipping in bkk surely wont hurt your budget.

We now have a very open policy on overseas workers coming for 12 month working holidays,, perhaps you would be interested Harold?? doubt you would pass the Psycological testing though.
AUD$1200 is not an uncommon wage here,, and our wage system is more compressed than your slave labour type deal.
Tipping is NOT customery here in Aus,, was almost unheard of 10 years ago,, but sometimes / rarely seen these days.
So, you think 5 days wages for a labourer as a tip to an LOS hooker is ok,, but 5 days wages as a tip in the USA is not done ??????????????????????????????
Things need to be kept in context, the BKK gal ain't paying AUD$1,600 rent per month ( average apartment in Aus), she ain't paying AUD$11 per packet of gigarettes, she ain't paying tax at up to 48%.
Wake up,, she can live very, very comfortably in BKK on
25,000BHT per month,,, that is 10 l/t's at 2,000 and 5 s/t's at 1,000. Anything more than that is greed.
My wife lived on the outskirts of BKK on 15,000BHT per month as a second line manager and still managed to send home 6,000 and had a nice comfortable life.
Harold have you ever actually been to Thailand? your ignorance of the actual pricings amazes me?

I love a soapie also, I love all the various variety of girls also.....probably why I married a local.
At the same time because I am not single, poor and I am relatively young. I tend be cheaper than the rest of you lads. I learned the game early from my time in the military but don't have the cash to back it up.
For me to pay for a service the service charge must be bargained down as in all my shopping in LOS ans SEA. I am a day runner mostly so this allows more better bargaining power.
I think if one is to pay around 1,500 than the girl and facility receive what I consider acceptable pay for non technical field maybe more. I am aware she only pulls maybe 500 at the best probably more like 300.00 for our hour or two but she sit's there hanging out watching t.v.
Don't get me wrong I like these girls and like to schedule girls to meet after hours for ST.
If a girl doesn't say anything and the service is remarkable I may send her 200.00 but rarely. If she does three massages a day she makes more than me.
So do I feel bad, no and if she is good to me I can make her a regular and she will make her share from me.
If this sounds cheap to you, you have more money than I and I am happy for you. But saying 500 is a minimum is relative.
I am clean, considerate, in good physical shape, living here, and speak some Thai. These things have the ability in my opinion to replace the necessity of tip.
If your old, fat and smell that way than a tip should be forthcoming for hazardous duty pay. Hopefully down the road when this describes me I will have the cash to cover the necessary tips you speak of. It's all relative......

mel if you dont believe in tipping, dont. I just feel bad for the girls who try to do a good job and end up with shit. 2k for soapy. girl gets half, of which she is forced to buy supplies. less than 25$ for 2 hours providing sex, luckily there are many guys who do tip them, or they just as well go back to picking rice......lol.

If I remember correctly the evolution of this topic started by comments relating to whether or not it was appropriate to ask for a further tip above and beyond the initial 500THB.
No one said that 500THB should not be given, rather that this was a fair and reasonable tip to be given for the time she spent 1-2 hrs and that the particular TG in question shouldn't have asked for more.
Why Mel drew the comparision to the 5 days wages was to demonstrate that this isn't a small amount of money in terms of people living on Thai wages.
Your next recourse might be that it isn't much money for the traveller, and in some cases it may not, but in others if someone is tipping 2 or 3 times a day then it adds up!
The first questions was... Is it a fair amount, and I believe most would agree it was... The next question was.... Should she have asked for more...... Some agree, some don't but it sure shouldn't have been the size of the tip that instigated it.
btw.... yes I can confirm labourers get a shit load in australia at the moment due to skills shortage most are on around 75-100k per year...... and no Im not a labourer....
