I've learned a lot from the forum as well. Unique things such as the recent Wotif info will keep me coming back for more. In this case, I had already cancelled an Agoda reservation to go with thaihoteldiscounts.com, which is also on this forum. Got a better deal than Agoda, with ABF. Either way, the bkktf was helpful. I've done some growing up as well. I still love to find beautiful girls and spend as much time with them as possible. Yet, I'm not willing to provide names, much less phone #'s, for fear that a bad person might contact her and hurt her. It's a confusing city, huh? We have our favorites, but if you're like me, you would really like for them to get out of the biz altogether. Who of us would wish AIDS or even HPV on anyone? I did give one FL enough money that she was able to purchase land for a house, and that will always serve as a good memory. I know a fair amount about Bumrungrad Hospital and a good dentist, plus experience at Millennium, Landmark, Marriott Spa, Lebua and others if I can ever be of help to anyone. I haven't tried any of the boutique hotels yet, but probably should.

I think you are correct on the account that P4P is fed on powerty and that it moves. I think however, sexuality in Thailand is not linked to religion and idea of sin, it is in any country with christianity or islam. Take that fact and combine it with the share erotic setting of the warm, dark night in a tropical country and the scents and smell of its flora and fauna, you have a receipe for people wanting to have sex. Sitting in a frosty European country where people have to pack themselves in to survive does nor promote sexuality. The P4P may be on the decline, but LOS will remain the most erotic country in the world and we will continue to go.

I don't really understand why this thread is in the soapies, but I do not agree that this forum is dying any more than LOS's sex appeal is fading. LOS is so far ahead of any other place in that respect that it can afford to "die" down a little and still stay on top for years to come. I see no signs yet that suggest otherwise, as much as I hate the increase in tourism and easy go lucky punters, the Vegasification of PTY and other hot spots in Thailand. I do not believe that we will ever grow tired of having sex or talking about sex. Thank God. Merry Christmas everyone. Q.

Then those replying turned the thread around in a sequence of posts about why the board in general was dying.

Gus makes a good reference to the advent of the internet. Obviously that is the basis for the flourishing of boards such as this since the late nineties / early 2000s. BTF itself apparently started off around that time ? A lot of us joined up here around that time ? And travel became a lot easier with research and bookings facilitated enormously by the internet. Many of us had read about Thailand and its mysteries in books but that served to keep it a distant dream in some ways -- a milestone to be crossed in due time. But the explosion of the internet led to the rapid breaking down of barriers to information. It also led to travel becoming more affordable with cheaper airline and hotel deals as operators reached out to the massive global market that the internet opened up. This led to a virgin flush of travelogues by millions on the net, resulting in forums like BTF. Probably the novelty is just beginning to mature a bit now and that may be the reason for posters probably not keen on rushing to post ? That does happen with me sometimes. Not the fault -- I think -- of this Board itself, just a maturing or stabilising of the adolescent passion. Guess by now many of the old posters here have sated, to some extent, their passion for writing, telling tales or being helpful with information. The internet itself is witness to an ironical implosion of enthusiasm. As incredibly as it has speeded up information, research and exchange it has also led to people now doing much more work, or enjoying much more armchair recreation and, in the process, escalating their own expectations far beyond what might have been considered humanly possible a few years back. We are now becoming increasingly impatient with slow speeds and limited features despite gigabytes giving way to terrabytes, broadband widening by the day and faster gizmos being born like every hour. So the inveterate forum poster of yesteryear now has less time and less patience to compose. He is already masterful enough to manage on his own, he has done his bit for information-sharing and would rather read only if someone has anything new to say. Sex can't jade humanity. It can jade individuals. As old posters find they have nothing new to say, or lose their inclination (oh, pun there), the fresh posters largely find themselves more restrained because a lot of basic information has already been uploaded here by the first movers and now they see their task somewhere in the realm of second generation intelligence -- unless they have more in-depth data, or a new discovery, they have nothing to report. Not any fault or weakness of BTF, just the way life works. In any case this is a great playing field for writing about individual adventures and experiences and, if people can disregard the occasional bites and snaps here, there is no reason why this board should be seen as dying.

IMHO this board died a long time ago, and despite other brothers opinions on certain brothers reactions to others posts I don't believe it so. In fairness, BK (who in 10yrs of life in Thailand I have never met) clearly spent a lot of money and time creating what was once one of THE boards to be part of and share/gain info with. unfortunately now it is not. Members make a forum, BK provides a platform for members to do so, if a board dies, its because the members can't be arsed, for whatever reason that is. I've never understood the reason for internet forums to have an ignore feature, FFS, are you seriously telling me that what some anonymous person says matters to you ? This forum appears to be full of hidden characters wanting to fulfill a fighting persona that in real lie they could not substain, but lucky for them BK spent a shitload for them to play big boy. For me, well, I tell a story or ask a question when I think its new, trouble for me and others is that rarely do we encounter something new. I for one am saddened that some like NF doesn;t want to post because of one liners, after his efforts to revive what was a dieing board he deserves more than that, I haven;t met the chap but I feel there is a common purpose if nothing else. Never forget, a board is as good as it members, if they are useless in posting informative/humerous/freindly info then the board is dead, I say long live BKTF because it helped me a lot, as i'm sure it did many others before they decided they knew it all and started telling people their posts were wrong. Just my 2 pence worth.

Nicely said Kaymanx. I think you accurately capture the evolution that has been taking place on this board, along with the internet in general, and its impact on travel to LOS. Evolution is of course a form of death, but I don't think that's what the original poster meant by his question. I agree that with respect to most topics covered on this forum, leaving aside the openings or closings, or special events, they have been covered ad nauseam. So why write, or read for that matter? One is purely informational, the other is more vicarious. With respect to this board's ability to provide me with current information about Poseidon's side-liners, the number of russians at CM2, or where to eat decent Italian, I must admit, I perceive little change since I first joined in 2003. But on the vicarious side, the number of new FRs does seem to have gone down somewhat. Which I find unfortunate, because I have never tired of reading about adventures in LOS, especially when I am half the way around the globe shoveling snow and listening to insipid Christmas-party banter. It was my search for useful information that brought me to this board, but it was the FRs that made me stay long after I had written down the names of all the after-hours clubs. Even now, I enjoy, from time to time, going back into the archives and reading ancient FRs by BK from 2002, or CG from 2004, or even "Deleted Member" from whenever. That the FRs information is often outdated matters little. It is all about the vicarious pleasure of reading and imagining. And that pleasure will never die. That some veteran members have stopped posting FRs, well, that is certainly understandable, as none of us like to repeat ourselves. For all its wealth of choices, P4P in BKK, and even LOS in general, does indeed repeat itself. I'm not sure anyone (apart from Buttman) wants to hear about my 100th visit to Eden. And that hesitancy is likely to leave it out of my next FR, or at least truncate its description. Yes, there are places in BKK and PTY about which I often have the feeling, "What's left to say?" But the fact that I keep enjoying reading about places that I have been to countless times before, and about which I have read countless threads and FRs, keeps me going. Going in the sense that I am willing to keep writing, at least until it stops being fun. I suppose that's the real test. When it stops being fun, that's when it dies.

Meatywsg, I am sorry about that, but I have my reasons. BTF will always have a very special place in my heart (I am not kidding), because it is the Platform that tought me most of what I needed to know when I came here 5 years ago. For that reason, I am still here. People have changed in 5 years and the atmosphere (or lack of) isn't the same as it used to be. I don't want to sound like an old man, but that is what I feel. I have never met any BTF member in the 5 years here, but have met a handful of members from another forum. There are some people here that I would never ever want to meet, not because of their one liners, but because I feel the time spent with them would be time I can never get back. Having said that, some other Members I would gladly meet. Never made it to a RT, don't see the point. Anyway, to cut a long sob story short, BTF isn't my forum of choice anymore, but I will not leave because of what it brought me in the past. If I have something to share I will do so but no reviews anymore. Meatywsg, I will send you a PM
