Just found this thread (been busy lately, not much lurking) and noticed there were some questions about cataract operations and prices. In 2003, summer, my TGF's grandma had the operation in both eyes over the course of several months. It was 16K Baht per eye in the Udon Thani hospital. It was about 20K Baht per eye (depends on type of lens, etc.) at Bumrungrad. I tried to get her to take her grandma to Bumrungrad, but her grandma insisted on being upcountry with family. BTW, Bumrungrad posts their rates online.
The operation went well, and she can see again just fine with glasses. But I agree with all the posters: go to the hospital of choice with her (this should be a general rule with these ladies, lol!), and pay right there. There is not much post-op support required for this, though my TGF's grandma was kept in the hospital for a couple of days after each operation for observation. I think she may also have been given antibiotics too.
