Should not be a taxi surcharge. You can direct the driver to Ratchada Soi 17 ( I have taken to writing out the number on pieces of paper), Poseidon is on the corner.

I've found that taxi drivers don't know how to get to "Poseidon" even though the name is on a huge f_cking neon sign on an 8 story building! In Thai even!! Maybe it's the way I pronounce it, but sheesh.
Okay, I just tell them to go Robinson Ratchadapisek which is a few blocks down. It's too far to walk comfortably, but when you get there you can tell him to keep driving or point out the big ass sign.
Anyone know what to call this kind of club in Thai? It's not an "op ab nuat", I assume. Maybe "entataynamen compek"?

if you pronounce it:
POH-SY-DON, they'll understand it. Say it at 1/2 speed of standard English. And yes, we consider it an arb-ob-nuad. In fact, I'd say the locals only differentiate between bar, karaoke ("rao" a butchering of "lounge"), and arb nuad (even though each thing can be had in most of those places interchanged).
Don't bother explaining to them..."you know, Poseidon? The Greek God of the Sea? Cronus and Rhea are his parents?"

Excuse me but I thought it was considered madness to ask a taxidriver to take you to a MP on the ground that he will want 500Bht from the MP which will then be added to your bill (already boosted by a 1000 Bht farang surcharge)? I thought the strategy was to ask for a nearby hotel... which is the Grand?

Depends on the establishment. Not all of them will pay the taxi driver. Poseidon is one that will not, so no need to go to nearby hotels.

I do not think that Poseidon pays commisions to taxi drivers but if you do not want to take any risk you can tell the cab driver to take you to the Grand Hotel which is right accross the road. But then you will have a small risk of crossing quite a busy highway.

Have been to Poseidon several times by taxi, and they do not pay any commissions to the taxi drivers. In fact, the establishments that pay the taxi drivers are the ones that the taxi driver promotes (after all, he is out for the commission).
To get there, just tell the taxi driver, Ratchadpisek Soi 17 (Rat-cha-da-pi-sek Soi Sip Jet) You will easily see Poseidon just at the corner. If you look into the Soi you will also notice another establishment, Copa Cabana. If you really can't find any girl in Poseidon, you can walk over there.
