There have been discussions in earlier threads about the difficulty of getting to Ratchida area MPs, especially from Sukhumvit. The traffic revisions implemented this last weekend should dramatically improve taxi travel time, because there is now a northbound lane on Asoke between Sukhumvit and Petchaburi again. (The northbound lane has been closed for several years during construction of the subway stations).
This means that one can move from Sukhumvit to Ratchidapisek via Asoke, thereby avoiding the long detours to Wireless or Soi 39 that have been required. The potential time savings is significant (easily 30 minutes) so the taxi drivers should be more willing to accept fares to Ratchida now. Flag a cab on the north side of Sukhumvit between Soi 1 and Soi 23 so you pick up an eastbound cab, which can then make a free left onto Asoke.
Note that the traffic changes are for a 30-day trial period so things could change again.

For the longer term ,
The Underground train system will be operational by March of next year - so you will be able to board the train at the Sukhumvit - Asoke junction ( near Soi Cowboy & Asoke Plaza ) and get off bang outside the Ratchada nighterie area .
All this convenience at half the cost of a taxi ride and without any traffic hassles .
NOTE : Any puns seen in the words "get off" & "bang" were absolutely intentional !!!

Great idea, Deep File. For people like me who don't think in compass points "north side" means the side of Sukhumvit with the odd numbered sois and "eastbound" means going toward the higher numbered sois.
Is it possible to make a right turn from westbound Sukhumvit onto northbound Asok?

thanks for the heads up on when the subway will be finished. i have sat in the Ratchada traffic and gone nowhere. i was looking at the subway entrances and seemed like they are near operational. i will definitely make use of the subway on my next trip.

Yes BKK Blues if you look at the subway entrances they look ready becuase they are and the subway should have been working this year except for one think, someone forget to order the trains 
Actually, the leadtime for the trains was underestimated, I guess they are not off-the-shelf. Even with expedite fees the planned opening is Songran next April.
I wish the planners in charge knew that the bros need this mass transit to the MP's ASAP!

I've narrowed down my choices to either Bombardier or Siemens for the trains. Whichever firm wants to send over about 4 Samsonite suitcases packripped with $100 denonomination bills... will get the order the next morning.

Yes, you did. But with both systems of orientation laying there side-by-side, I employed in the follow up question the one which made the question easier to understand and which more readily conforms to the terms that most other people seem to use. Did you have a real question?

Let me look back .... hmmm... no, I do not see anywhere in my post the "?" sign. Nor do i see a sentence that gramatically would seem to be a question.

ON topic: I went yesterday to the Ratchada area in the evening, and Took a taxi yesterday from Sukhumvit on the westbound lane. It was a glorious change! I loved it. I think it cut my travel time in half. I hope the northbound lane stays operational beyond the 30 days trial period.
