haven't got any other bad experience.

Been at ATAMI three times and took a cab in two ocassions. Didn't get any problem to get the local fare without being overcharged. Don't believe they tip the taxi drivers. Maybe I was lucky.

Sometimes, I have one of those massage brochures handy. Whenever a tout shows me one of those brochures, I whip mine out and ask him the same thing.

It would be a mistake to blacklist a venue just because they may do deals with taxi drivers... these policies are not "fixed" in terms of price or consistency and are not so predatory that they should cause you to pass up a good venue like Atami or Mona Lisa. Better to go prepared after researching the many helpful suggestions on this board. The basics are: have the taxi drop you on the street within walking distance rather than right at the front entrace, and know the established pricing for the venue before you arrive so you can keep the cheerguest honest.
There are plenty of rackets in Thailand, especially in the flesh/entertainment industry... many are more damaging financially and easier to fall for than kickbacks to taxi drivers.

Honestly, my referral to Atami came from sources of other forumers' comments. Yes, perhaps you were lucky. More than a few years ago when I was in LOS as a tourist, one cab driver took me to Atami and I paid local fare too after prostesting to the papasan that his quote of 3,000B was way too much! Ended up paying 2,000B instead.
