Went for breakfast quite a few times to this place and everything is quite impressive. Tried the American breakfast (Two eggs, ham, bacon or sausage, juice, toast, coffee) for a ridiculous 55 baht, as well as the Asian dishes. Quick service, quality food and was lucky enough to sit at the bar with a few cuties giving me the eye.
Also saw many LT couples (farang/TG) having breakfast - each TG looking totally bored.
I even took a copy of the menu home with me.

Good info Whisper - off the track a little it never ceases to amaze (or should that be amUse) me how many TG look so fed up when you see them in restaurants with guys. .......people watching eh, 10% of the fun!!!

Did a lot of people watching, whitespider. Wish I could read minds as well - I'm sure the farangs would be thinking, "I hope everyone notices that this girl is with me", while the TG would be thinking, "I can't wait to finish this free breakfast and go home to sleep".
Also saw an interesting thing while I was there. A TG was allowed behind the bar to make herself a cappucino. Maybe she had worked there before or knew the manager. When she had made it she sat back next to her farang and drank it.

It's even cheaper (39 B) if you have it between 6 am - 9 am.

Just after a late session at the Arabic bars or from Thermae (I can only reminisce the days when one could get a girl out of that place at 6 AM!).

Chook la Dee is a place one could write a book about. What a great place for people watching 24/7. This place is truly the essence of LOS.
I love their 89 baht 18" bratwurst plate.

I don't know if it was intended, but this is one of the funniest posts I have seen in a while!
Took lae Dee (Cheap and Good) is a great place to eat and people watch, but "truly the essence of LOS"?? I guess it's the essence of Thais trying to make foreigners comfortable, "doing good while doing well". It's the essence of punter-land.
Don't get me wrong: when I'm lazy and want 'comfort food', or when I manage to get there before 9AM, I'm glad it's there. It's not particularly cheap, and at least their 39 baht breakfast isn't very good. I always eat the 'minute steak and egg', which comes with french fries and a salad for B160. Salad for breakfast is GOOD!
The whole experience is great fun, especially if you get to know the women working behind the counter. If you speak (or at least understand) Thai, it is hilarious!
I see guys talking about B500 a day for food. I guess if you eat all your meals at Took lae Dee, you COULD spend that, but the food stalls in the newly covered shortcut between Soi 5 and Soi 7 are cheaper and better. I prefer to eat good, fresh food on the street, and splurge at the nicer restaurants in the evenings.
AND - I have gotten sick from Took lae Dee, and NEVER from the food stalls. Took lae Dee is like ANY large-menu restaurant: portions prepared days in advance, and assembly-line style.
If I had to select the 'essence of LOS', it wouldn't be anywhere NEAR Sukhumvit, at least the lower sois...no offense...just my preferences...
