I've been deprived of my regular steak enjoyment, when I saw it seems to be shuttered. Anyone know what's happened to Steak One?

Dear Mr. Duck, Obviously if they have gone out of business (not saying they have) it was because they did not provide a quality product. However I may suggest for the true steak connoisseurs that the Rib Room in the Landmark or the NY Steakhouse in the JW provide an excellent hunk of beef. Of course if you are the 'Cheap Charlie' then it would be Sizzler or (if you want to splurge) the Outback. Signed: Bored in Bournville...

as a side note, the dry aged beef at Whole Foods in th eU.S. provides a GREAT steak. Better than most butcher shops. The difference when you BBQ is that the dry aged beef needs to be pulled off a lot sooner than regular beef. It cooks very quickly once you hit the medium rare part. All I use is some fresh cracked pepper and kosher salt on both sides. Thats it. On lesser cuts I go to the A-1 sauce, with true dry aged, hardly anyhting.

Daffy, Steak One I believe was closed due to lease issues. I have heard that the Landmark is building another wing to the hotel behind it. I've heard that other closings in the area will happen... isnt there another location to Steak One in Silom?? I personally like the steaks at Great American Rib.

the reason for the faster cooking would be because of the lack of moisture during the process of aging. you can achieve aging in your fridge as well, just be sure to have the meat (usually a standing roast or rib roast or other larger primal cuts) at the back location covered (tupperware works) with some holes in it to allow air to move. wait like 2-3 days.. cut off the leathery bits and you will see a steak that is more intense in flavor due to the loss of moisture. in 2-3 days probably 10-15% weight loss, thereby intensifying the flavor that much more from the steaks bought.

Steak One's lease was not renewed by the landowners. I am pretty sure Hillary II is going the same way.

I went there once and ordered one of their more expensive steaks (~850b$)... Was not very good. Was very thin cut and look liked someone had "beat on it" to tenderize. Steak One... Not a great loss in my book. Gary
