I like mexican grub a lot and I have found the small place Charlie Browns on soi 11 to be ok - if not fantastic. They could improve a few things but I am a happy return customer!

So today I decided to try another mex place - Coyote on sukhumvit located very close to soi 33. It sure looks nice and inviting from the outside, so it was with some positive thoughts we entered through the doors. Inside it is 2 floors and well decorated and built up. It should from the looks of it have every chance of being a good place.

Maybe it is just me - but I am used to be greeted when entering a diner and shown a place to sit. Here noone even looked at you and just gave a s--t whether you were there or not! It was quite busy and noisy on the ground floor so we decided to to upstairs.

Same procedure - noone said "hi" or suggested a place. We found a table anyway and sat down. The first thing that alerted me that I was not comfortable with the place was the terrible loud music from loudspeakers everywhere! You could not speak in a normal tone with your companion and that to me is a big no-no when you are about to eat! We tried to move to find a place away from this stupidity but it was impossible. The noise made me more and more irritated and after having sat at the table studying the menu - without anyone even coming asking what we would like to have for a starting drink - I decided that I have had it! I stood up and walked out. Made no difference to the sourfaced staff who I never saw caring or smiling.

A place which so obviously dont understand that customers pay their rent and salaries and thinks it is a disco more than a diner - well in my world that is a stay away for me!

I have no idea if the food there is good or bad since we didnt eat there. I had a glance at the menu though and I sure hope it is good with those prices!

Restaurants with an attitude and shit service is places that we should all avoid! This is one of them in my mind. Many others to choose from that appreciate your visit!

They could be understaffed, and the staff could be having a bad day. That has never been my experience with that place, and I have been going there fairly regularly, and when they can remember what drink I want, I'd say that's regular enough. Since I normally go there when there is no one around, I guess, they have no choice but to serve me, perhaps that helps.

Coyote on Soi Convent (near Silom) is my favorite non-Thai restaurant. 2-for-1 margaritas and some beers are 2-for-1 before 7pm, and the Sukhumvit one has 2-for-1 margaritas from 10p-midnight too. At the one on Soi Convent, food is awesome, drinks are great, music good, great service, the place is happening. Just awesome! BK and I have spent a few nights and bucks in this place!

No comparison between Coyote and Charlie Brown in my opinion. Coyote is miles ahead - at least the one on Convent is.

Prices are a little high, but the food is great and the drinks are killer! The only thing better than an awesome margarita is a 2-for-1 awesome margarita!

I see the one on Sukhumvit has free margaritas for ladies Thursdays from 6-8pm. Before expecting it when bringing a TG (who won't like the food here anyway), someone might want to clarify that it is "all ladies" or "all unaccompanied ladies" or "ladies who order food" or "ladies who ???". There are two other places I have seen in BKK that have had some promotion for ladies, but it is only offered to ladies that are not with men, so a lady with a man cannot take advantage. Roadhouse ladies night (on Suriwong) comes to mind.

I don’t care much for Coyote – way, way, over priced for my tastes. Kind of funny this posting popped up today, ‘cause just yesterday I stopped by Coyote on Suk for lunch, and run into basically the same thing – piss poor service. So I to left and ended up having a burger a The Penalty Shot near Suk Soi 29. I do eat at Coyote a few times a year though (despite what I think are high prices) and typically get the pulled pork sandwich.

Over the past couple of years Bangkok has exploded with Mexican places. Charlie Browns has been around for some time, and I think they have the best refried beans in Thailand. Senior Pico’s (Rembrandt Hotel Suk Soi 18) ain’t half bad, but I rarely eat there anymore. Patty’s Fiesta (Silom) is OK, but equally overpriced like Coyote – the over priced bit must have something to do with Silom because the first Coyote was on Silom and the only fairly recently opened the Suk branch. Then there is Taco Loco (or something like that) also over on Silom – if I am in the Silom area and want Mexican this is the place I typically go. Mainly because if I am near Silom it is typically around lunch time and Taco Loco is more of a fast food Mexican joint – decent food, good prices, but again much more a fast food Mexican type place as apposed to a sit-down joint.

Speaking of fast-food type Mexican, for my money it’s hard to beat Sunrise Taco they now have a few locations (Emporium, Suk near soi 12, and I think they have one either in Central Mall or Siam Paragon (at least they were planning to) ). Good food, fair prices, and at least at the Suk 12 location, good service. I eat there pretty much every week. The topper for me is that they are open 24 hrs - this leads to numerous stops at 2,3,4,5 AM to pick up some tacos on the way home. Just had six last night.

There is also Mama Cita – near Suk soi 15 I think. I’ve heard they have a killer margarita but I don’t drink margaritas so I don’t know first hand. They have pretty good food and reasonable prices. A bit more authentic (food wise) than most other Mexican joint in Bangkok IMHO, but the serving sizes are not very big. For example the burritos seem more like rolled soft tacos than burritos because they are so small.

Then there is a smattering of restaurants that offer Mexican food in addition to other types of food. Like Larry’s Dive (Suk Soi 20), not bad, but not that good either. Bourbon Street (Washington Square), a fair bit better than Larry’s but I like too many other things on their menu so I rarely get Mexican there. Also Bistro Eurogourmet (near Ekimai) also has a few Mexican items on the menu – good food, good prices, pain in the ass location.

I’m sure there are others, but when I first moved to Bangkok there was a real dearth of Mexican options and now that is certainly not the case.

Yup, they certainly are the best. The refried beans at Coyote suck!

After a few so-so experiences, I tend to avoid Mexican food in Thailand because it reminds me of what most USA big restaurants (e.g. Cheesecake Factory) understand is tex-mex food, which is very different from the real thing in Mexico.

Many in the USA just serve any kind of corn based bread type of tortilla, taco, or whatever, with ground or shredded beef or chicken, chopped tomato, onions, sour cream, cheese, guacamole and beans and voila..... that is the extend of Mexican food.

But may give a try to Coyote´s food in Convent-remember having drink there once, but that was all. Actually, no. Just saw their website and again, it looks like another USA mexican restaurant

Funny you should mention Charlie Brown´s refried beans - because that along with their awesome guacamole just makes me eat too much of their starter "Trio Of Dips" before the main course! The beans and guacamole as well as the "red sauce" (sorry dont remember what it is called right now...) is great and I will actually ask them how to do prepare it yourself. Would like to try in the kitchen! But maybe its a secret and I am anyway the worst disaster that would ever enter a kitchen! Can´t even boil an egg...

Just a point about Coyote and this goes for many places one gets disappointed with. Here or elsewhere in the world. You have set a good place up, you have invested dearly, you have every possibility to make it REALLY succesful and draw hords of people - yet you manage to dilute the good you have going by running it with stupid irritating glitches that makes people go away. This is not really the fault of the staff. It is only and purely the responsibility of the owner/manager!

It is very easy to see that with some good sense and proper skillful management Coyote would be a place you would visit again and again. Maybe some people like shit service and disco-loud sound when they want to spend their dinner money. Good for them. I dont however and I am sure many others agree!

So mr manager of said place: show professionalism, get your act together, train the staff of how to treat customers and screw the f....g volume DOWN! Then I will happily return for a renewed test! Until then - hasta la vista!

when I first went to coyote on sukhumvit, the staff was very cute and attentative. a friendly "hola" when you entered. and a "gracias senor" when you left.

price a bit high, put the pulled pork and the ribs are just fine, so is the burger.

avoid to go at thursdays, full of loud foreign ladies.

sorry to hear that the service went south.

I was at the opening at mamacita, small place, but nice enough, they make you wear mexican hats (if you like).

I am a regular at senor pico's (being so close to TOXIC) and specially like the skewers, the current band is a bit annoying though. where is the cubana with the sexy ass??

always liked the taco plate dinner at silver dollar on washington square. never had a bad one

sunrise taco does deliver 24 hours. that's hard to beat 022294851.

Agree with IBF, I like Sunrise for quick tacos. I like quick tacos. I like Charlie Browns, most of their food is OK, as far as Thailand goes. Personally, I don't care for the food much at Coyote, it's a weird interpretation of Mexican, just like the other "Mexican" places on Silom. I don't know what kind of food it is, but I don't like it. Drinks are OK there though. Enchiladas at Larry's are pretty good for me when I've had them.
