I heard Foodland on Soi 5 is closing this month Moving to Thong Lor Soi 55 area. Soi 16 still open and running though Surprised no one has mentioned this yet. It is a landmark for the newbie Farang A legend bites the dust Memories............. like the corner of my mind....

here's what was said on another site Took Lae Dee diner just inside the doors of the Sukhumvit soi 5 branch of Foodland. That's the closest you'll find to the Star Wars bar in Bangkok these days. But just as Thermae's Star Wars label is no longer valid, you won't be able to mention Foodland and Star Wars in the same sentence for much longer either. The rumour mill has it that the soi 5 branch of Foodland will close down in the next few days. It is anticipated that the supermarket will reopen later in the year after extensive renovations but it is not certain if the Took Lae Dee branch will return. For fans of Took Lae Dee, there is a much bigger branch with exactly the same menu and food inside the Foodland branch on Sukhumvit soi 16. It might not have the same atmosphere, but it is more relaxing, and much spacious - and is open 24 hours just the same.

Food Land has the best deals on wine in BKK, you can get a decent bottle of spanish cabernet for like 300 baht That is still crazy expensive compared to farang countries, but relatively speaking wine is about the most overpriced product in Thailand, actually in all of South East Asia for that matter But I will miss grabbing a quick bite at Took Lae Dee! atl

Took Lae Dee is one of my favorite spots in Bkk. I have made it sort of a tradition of making it my first stop after my long, grueling flight arriving on the late night. I would quickly checkin to my hotel, shower and change, and take a taxi straight there. It was a good place to soak up the atmosphere that first hour in town and get that long awaited bite of cheap Thai food I've been so desperately craving since my last departure. The added bonus was grabbing those hotel room drinks and snacks in the grocery store before heading back. I'll be sad to see this place move. Oh well... soi 16 isn't too far away. I guess I can deal with it...

How many times have I sat there with a coffee and paper and eggs on toast at 6am trying to figure out an excuse for being out all night - to give to some wife or girlfriend- Yep - the place was an institution
