Are there any food establishments I should definitely try while in BKK?
And are there any places I should avoid while I am in BKK? ÝEspecially if one or more of you have had gotten sick from eating there.

Most food in the restaurants are pretty clean. I noticed that everytime I have lots of soft drinks with ice, I get an upset tummy. I figure, it must be the dirty ice cubes. I'll stick to Heinekens anytime.
I would avoid those Som Tam street vendors. Even my girlfriend gets an upset tummy from that.

i think you mean the food stalls at soi7 opposite the beergarden. ministry of sound is in soi12!
the food stalls are nice for cheap thai food. i f you want some more decent restaurants my favourites are: chesa swiss reatuarant in soi 20, the admiral (scandinavian and thai) in soi 18, beergarden in soi 23 (anotehr cheap one), buffet at the oriental hotel (the classic in town), all the restaurants in the banyan tree hotel (best view in town, chinese, thai and international cuisine), cafe siam just of rama V (hidden secret! old colonial villa with french and thai food), indigo off convent road (french with good wine selection), bed soi 11 (stylish as stylish can be!)

Top floor of the Emporium (accessable by Sky Train) has delightful Thai dishes and western restaurants (including a Burger King) at some of the greatest prices. There is even a supermarket! It is a fabulous discovery! Lots of smiling girls working there. I love it very much.
I shop for my hotel room at the supermarket (H20, Coca Cola, etc...), lunch in the Thai section, and more at The Emporium top floor. There are loads of clean, good food centers for the budget minded. If you eat in the Thai food section, which is like a row of about 25 restaurant, cafeteria style, you have to buy "vouchers". There are 2 windows for that before the area to eat.
Naturally, they will re-buy the vouchers at face value for what you do not use....but only for that day.

Regarding Seafood local style, and local customers its
"Bor Gung Bao" Ratchada road, any cab driver will know, the more upperclass seafood on sukhumvit soi 24 "seafood market", there is a perfect guide, available at any "asia bokkstore" .

for steak, "sarika" steakhouse at mains soi in patpong, on the right side if you enter from suriwongse road, and further down "madrid" pizza, for the best pizza I have ever had.
