i watched a program about mantises yesterday. theyre pretty mean insects. i think id avoid eating those out of respect. no mention of maggots yet, i hope its not true that people eat them.
im curious about the chocolate covered ants though. after being harrassed and eaten by ants, mosquitos and any other little f_cker that fancied a nibble out of me im looking forward to getting some payback.
have any of you come across a thai restaurant back home that served any of these things?

Paul we have several Thai restaurants near Birmingham but have never seen the insects,but that is because it is Thai food tailored for the English

Certainly, most of the cuties having dinner in that alley connecting Soi 7 w. Soi 5 have the spoon in one hand and the bug in the other.
Haven't seen any insects as part of the meals for Bangkokian girls. While being a student I realised that Bangkokian classmates were/are not into it. No need to ask man, the normal girls will immediately realise that I got the info cos was approaching Isaarn girls....

Jedi master BK is right. Fried insects are considered a delicacy by our Issarn lady friends, but you might be surprised that they really aren't that bad. Last time I was there a couple of the bros convinced me ( tied me up and forced my mouth open  ) to give them a try. The fried silk worms and the large beetles with the eggs inside weren't all that good but I have to say that the fried grasshoppers were actually quite tasty, seriously. Can't say you don't like something if you've never tried it right? After all, you had to have that first soapy massage at some point right  . Peace

i watched a good lonely planet program on discovery channel last night. the bloke who presents it travelled round bangkok-lumpburi-chang mei-laos. along the way he went to a market for a bite to eat. boiled maggots, water beetles, MAHUSSIVE frogs, and scrawny, rabid looking squirrels were on the menu. im really looking forward to experimenting with all this new food, but im worried that ill make myself ill with my body not being used to these things. is there anything in thailand that youve had a bad experience with and you would avoid?
