Probably won’t even be available in most Farang oriented bars in places like Bangkok – Singha will control distribution just like Leo beer to prevent competition with the "premium" brand of Singha.

Charng is considered the (blue collar) working man's bier, more or less, like Liow too (though Liew is supposed to be less in alcohol). Seeng (which I used to like) and Heinzekin (which I don't like either) are supposed to be higher class, so most of the sit-down places don't stock it. Though of course you've discovered that. I would imagine that the same places won't be serving the new stuff from Iesann either.

Yep, I realise Chaing is lower priced and targeted at workers,, but I love the taste NOT because of the price. Apollo,, I believe the spelling Isan was contrived for the American market,as they forever add their extra "r's" in words anyway The double "aa" is meant to signify an ar like sound.Actually with the US citisens ( ) also spreading the incorrect use of "z's", one day it will perhaps be spelled Izan. But above all, the word will always remain, อีสาน. Mel. For the time being I like Isaan

Quote: from PussyLover 69 on 1:27 pm on Nov. 12, 2007 Report from Bangkok Post dated Monday 12 November 2007 :- Boonrawd launches Isan beer ======================= Boonrawd Brewery, the brewer of Singha beer, believes the launch of its new Isan beer will propel it into first place in the competitive beer market, says chief executive Santi Bhirombhakdi. The new low-cost beer is targeted at the northeastern region known as Isan, which has seen strong growth in beer sales.
Report from Bangkok Post dated Monday 12 November 2007 :- Planned "Isan" beer angers northeasterners ================================= Pro-Buddhist activists and groups against the consumption of alcohol in the northeastern region are crying foul over plans by Boon Rawd Brewery Co., Ltd., which produces Singha beer,to sell a new product under the name “Isan” beer. The protesters gathered this morning, calling on one of Thailand’s beer giants not to associate the name Isan, which refers to Thais who hail from the northeastern region, with a vice such as beer. “We have already written a document to the governor of Khon Kaen province and also to the managers of Boon Rawd Brewery, urging them to reconsider the name,”said Niroot Suttha, Chairman of an anti-alcohol group. He added: “We would be happy if they chose another name that was not directly connected with the Isan people’s way of living and their culture.” The protesters threatened to hand a petition to the new government if their calls were not met.

I'm not sure why Isaan people would protest about a beer named Isan,, two completely different words ( sounds). If a company really wanted to catch the North eastern style and culture, they should call it Lao Khao beer Mel.

Report from Bangkok Post dated Tuesday 29 January 2008 :- Buddhist-led groups rap insensitive beer brand =================================== Khon Kaen - Issue groups in 19 northeastern provinces on Tuesday lodged a protest against Boon Rawd Brewery - makers of Singha beer - for naming its newest brew "Isan Beer." Isan, meaning the Northeast, is the country's largest region. Representatives from the Isan Buddhism and Culture Promotion Network and several other groups in the Northeast called on the company to change the name of the beer to avoid tarnishing the reputation of northeastern people. They said the name "Isan Beer" could lead to a misunderstanding that northeastern people of Thailand, fondly called Isan people, are obsessed with drinking alcohol. Such a misunderstanding, they claimed, could be deep-rooted to become a negative value for the younger generation and detrimental to the society and culture of the region. (Boonrawd's flagship Singha has been known for many years by its motto: Singha beer, Thai beer.) They submitted an open letter to Khon Kaen governor and Boon Rawd Brewery executives to demand a change of the name. They also asked the company to stop advertising its product in the media as well as supporting cultural events in the province. Should the company ignore their protest, they said, they would gather signatures of one million protestors to further submit their demand to the government.
