ok.

my vote goes to:

definitely and always

"condoms and cabbages"

had another big feast with a customer on friday night. food is great, they spice it up to your needs.

and the proceeds go to a good cause.
and you get a free durex after the meal.
and the bill never comes above baht 1'000 for 2.

great place, delicious kitchen.

rtb.

baan khanita used to be my favourite, but to much westernised these days.

Herr Bok Hah......your English is perhaps French? Perchance?I am sure you have a French tongue..sometimes.

ps. Mandarin is English for 'putong hua' which is Chinese
for Chinese (the language), but not Cantonese, which is English for.......oh never mind, as long as its not German.

Mr Alan, thanks for your recommendations.

I found it hard to believe that so many restaurants in a tourist oriented area such as Sukhumvit didn't have something available in English. Then again I did try to pick the smaller/quieter places.

Mr Alan
Mr Nobody,

You must be a very unlikely guy. Like I said, I don't ever remember being in a BKK restaurant that didn't have some English on the menu.

BTW, of the ones I mentioned, my favs are:

Kalpapreuk on First - Emporium 1st floor - Thai and Vietnamese - I have been there about 4-5 times and never saw a farang (besides me).  Popular with locals at lunch time. Hard to find even though it’s in the Emporium because there is just one small door that is visible from the mall. It’s on the side facing Sukhumvit. Just ask someone if you can't find it.

Cabbages and Condoms - Sukhumvit Soi 12 - As mentioned by others, very good food, and moderately priced. Great place to eat after a massage at Darlings.

Central Dept Store Food Court (Chitlom) – directly connected to Chitlom BTS stop – “High End” food court. Not on Sukhumvit 2-33, but just a short hop on the BTS to Chitlom stop and then straight into the Central Dept Store. Very interesting food court has Thai, Chinese, Indian, Vietnamese, and Italian, all run by some of the better restaurants in town. Very high-tech checkout system.
