One more note after reading the German brew pub link. There are two Tawan Daengs across the street from each other. The morlam place seats about 300, and I have never seen a line there. To make sure you have the right place, say the magic word "morlam?" at the door. If you're at the wrong place, they'll send you across the street.

The Morlam Tawandaeng is on the South side of Pattanakarn and it adjacent to the Ram Inthra / Bang Na Expressway entrance.
It has a large rocket (firework rocket...not a NASA jobby) outside. If coming from town it may be best to get out at the Rock Tawandaeng and cross the road, new road adjustments have made the next available U Turn some 2 km's up the road, though you can U Turn just before and walk back.
About 80B taxi from Soi 3.

Been there twice (second time on my very last night in Thailand and I'd never forget that night!) and enjoyed the place enormously - in fact there are 2 Tawan Daeng: Old Tawan Daeng and New Tawan Daeng (on the other side of the road).
The old one has electric atmosphere and is packed to the hilt while the new is less busy but you get traditional morlum dancing and there is a cracker of a singer (from Udon Thani) - I just had to invite her to my table and offer to share our drinks and food. I wish I'd have been more fluent in Thai and w/o my teerak......
Highly recommended, just go there

To revive this thread from a while ago, I believe there are four places in Bangkok that are referred to as Tawandang. Two of the places are on Pattanakarn Rd. (Petchaburi becomes Pattanakarn). One is an Isaan Morlam place and the other is a place we call "Tawandang Rock", which has live rock music (almost all Thai rock). The two times I was at Tawandaeng Rock (both times with TGs), I was one of the only farang there, but did not feel unwelcome. Last time I was with Yurune, DSBones, Dew and a bunch of girls, and we had a great time.

There are also two other Tawandangs, both similar. They have bands that play rock and pop and some show as well. I have been to the one on Rama III many times. It is better known by Thais by the Thai language name for "German Brewery. Reservations highly recommended.

The long-standing, lone survivor of all Bangkok brewhouses, Tawandaeng German Brewery will open its second branch with a big bang tonight. It's located alongside the Ram Intra tollway, and it's a biggie, three times bigger than the first one, they say.
All are worth a night out with a few TGs. A TGs birthday party here would be a smashing hit - don't forget to invite me!
