i think I saw you mention you are coming back to the states, but for future refrence next time you are on soi 12 rather than indian food, go to darling which is about 100 feet instead.

Thanks for the tip. However, I always make it a habit of dropping in at Darlings. #102 is wonderful.
The wonderful thing about BKK is that you can try the different types of food as well as different types of entertainment.
Back in March. Maybe this time I can get the TGF to try the Indian food.

The problem with most of the Middle Eastern (read Egyptian) restaurants in the Arab Quarter is that the ambience sucks (authentic Egyptian), the service sucks (authentic Egyptian), and they don't serve alcohol out of deference to their Muslim clientele. The best bet for civilized Arab basics in a presentable atmoshpere WITH a bottle of Singh or a Heinie is probably Beirut, in the basement of Ploenchit Center.

Getting back to basics. I need to take a guest out to a good restaurant in Bangkok. Could anyone recommend anywhere. This is not a business meal or anything involving the usual recreational pursuits of this forum.
It is a thank you for help given in the past.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Tenderloin, Soi 33, on the left-hand side, just past Livingstone's.
Excellent Argentinian beef, 750 baht, as I recall.
They have a number of other dishes on the flip side of the menu for 250-350 baht, as well.
Excellent ambience, clean, well-appointed, and if the music (tasteful jazz, for the most part) is too obtrusive, they will turn it down for you, upon request.
My favorite place in Bangkok.

Try Tawandaeng II on Ram Inthra tollway past Kaset-Nawamin. Huge restaurant, great food, great entertainment. Tawandaeng on Phra Ram 3 is the original one and still cool. Tons of cool restaurants on Kaset-Nawamin but Tawandaeng would be my choice.
