I had a very good steak at the 'outback steakhouse' at siam discovery centre, cost was around 500baht for the steak and chips, been back twice.

Had the worst pizza of my life in Patpong 2 opposite Kings garden bar.

Had the worst Bangers and mash at O'Reillys on corner of Thaniya and Silom, it was like microwaved sausage and instant potatoes and instant gravy, crap. But on the other hand had the best chips ever here, big and home made.

Had excellent bangers and mash at I think its the Bullshead around the corner from Villa supermarket on Sukhumvit.

The best duck curry is at a little airconditioned restaurant in Suanplu. Superb.

Best iced latte is also just down the road from the duck curry in Suanplu, very creamy and cold. Starbucks could learn how to make a decent one from them.

Japanese, very nice food at the Japanese restaurant in Central Chidlom on the 4th floor I think.

Still looking for an awesome spaghetti bog and pizza just like at home.

For something different and an absolute ripoff, don't bother to go to the seafood restaurant in Suk soi 24, the one with the big lobster in neon lights. These seafood restaurants are generally expensive, but this one was a complete scam, the food was very good but the cost was 5000b.

We eat plenty of thai food and the missus cooks the best and when we eat out, so far nothing other than the duck has really stood out as outstanding. But the fish as recommended above sounds like a go. Where is seacon square??

Lobster generally in Thailand and especially at the seafood restaurants around Pratunam, is over rated, it has always been rather chewy for the price and I have found far far better taste, quality and value in rock lobsters, I think thats what they call them here, same as Moreton bay bugs in Australia, kind of flat and alien looking and either the river prawns or the larger ocean prawns to be very tasty.

Anyway, thats my take on food here, hope it helps someone!!

ducks.

pizza, try "di napoli, suk soi 31. the best pizza I had so far in bangkok. large, thin, 200 baht. like in italy.

for pasta try spaghetteria, between suk soi 7 and 9, just next to bts stairs. choose your type of pasta and which sauce. 130 to 180 baht. good deal, never had a bad meal there. belongs to the pomodoro group, but cheaper.

seafood market is PRICEY. but the food is fantastic. so once in a blue moon I am going to get it.

RTB,

the thing is I don't think I want a pizza just like in Italy, I have not been there, but I believe a traditional pizza is fairly meagre in the toppings department. In Oz I had 2 favourite places that stack on the ingredients and they are all fresh, base is relativley thin, but not as thin as the pizza hut thin and crispy. Then I ask for extra cheese on top and well done, beeewwdifull. I tried a pizza place in soi 31 I think it was and it was tasty and the best so far in Los, but still not well stacked like I want. I think I will try to find where to buy just the base and make my own in the bbq.

As for Spag bog, I will give your reco a try, i often sit at that place and have a drink on the verandah and watch the babes go by. But I thought it might be a bit Sizzler like with the food, so have not ried yet.
As for the seafood, the thing is that you can get just as good if not better seafood in smaller local seafood places without the extra cost. I remember a couple years ago 3 of us had a huge feed of seafood on a street corner from one of those small almost mobile vendors and beers and heaps of food until we were bloating cost 900b.

YURUNE,

I have been in a couple of those neon lobster seafood places, It looks like they are all the same franchise or something, but this one on soi 24 is way over the top of any of them. There was only 3 of us, we had a bottle of wine for 970b, the seafood cost 3300b and heres the killer, the cooking charge was 800b. the thing was that the other 2 just wanted to eat on the street, i wanted to eat seafood and we drove past this one and I knew it would be pricey, but was not prepared for that.

ducks.

you are correct about the seafood. but I am always a bit worried about freshness. I will have it at seashore yes.

I think you went to the same place at 31, it is a thin pizza and you can roll it like a shawarma... but we like it that way.

spaghetteria is FAR better than sizzler. give it a try and tell me what you thought.

I like Steak One on Suk. Soi 4.
They are good and very consistent.  They also have good lamb and one or two daily specials.

Stopped at Chok Jai twice this last trip.  The Premuim Filet Mignon (560 Baht) FIVE STARS.  Very Tender wrapped with bacon.  Do not pass this steak up.  You will not be disappointed.

Second trip out of Premuim Filet Mignon.  Tried Premuim Rib eye.  THREE STARS.  Good steak.

Had a steak (Filet Mignon) at Cowboy Resort near Khoa Yai.  Went to plan B Thai noodles.  The local hound would not eat it, 260 Baht won't even buy dog food.

can anybody explain the difference in taste of beef around the world ...  i've found that beef in most european countries tastes like I'm used to ... then in Oz and Thailand and alse NZ the beef tastes funny .. don't know how to describe it but it's different ... still ok though but the extra taste sort of takes away the pleasure of eating beef ... anybody know what I mean?
