.....No one tortures pigs, cattle, goats, or chickens that way.

Not that I want to justify one treatment by contradicting your statement above, but it could be argued that some birds -like geese are tortured by forced feeding (so that they grow extra fat faster), and others are also subjected to torture by keeping them under 24 hours of light so that eat more - for some reason they do when deprived of the absence of light.

My Vietnamese classmates told me they are use to dog meat cos they were told that this meat will keep them warm during winter. They only take black dogs.

I saw dogs hanging on hooks in Vietnamese fresh markets and was a sad experience. However, that's cultural stuff.... While studying in Thailand the Vietnamese Student Association made parties during their national day. The main course was dog meat and I politely declined....they informed all the students to keep the pets indoors three days in advance....many colleagues lost their beloved pets....f_cking weird!

I have just returned from LOS and while there I visited the crocodile farm in Samut Prakan. After walking round the farm in the heat and needing some refreshment and also feeling hungry I stumbled across a restaurant there.
After being handed the menu the waiter told me that on the back page were crocodile meat dishes so I thought ok what the heck.I ordered green curry with crocodile meat and it was ok but not with too much taste and quite expensive-300 baht.
I always like to try most of the local food but one thing that I really can't try are the bugs that are quite commonly sold in Bangkok. My stomach wouldn't allow me to try those!

I tried those bugs some time ago, just to be sociable.

I had no problems with the locusts and frogs, but I got stick on the cockroaches.  I tried to eat the whole thing and couldn't grind my way through the shell. Apparently the thing to do with a roach is pick of the shell and eat the rest( I think)

Generally on the subject of eating dogs, I am pretty open minded. At my place in UK I keep sheep, cattle and poultry. I don't see a big differece between eating one animal and another. I do have a big problem if any suffering is inflicted like keeping dogs strung up and alive.

I've eaten dog a bunch of times in China, and once in the Philippines.  It's fine.  Tastes a lot like mutton.  Can be a bit chewy sometimes though...

Tastes a lot better than cat, that's for sure (had that in China too)

i like to try the local food, what's the point in going if you only want egg and chips or a hamburger everyday?.
but there are somethings i will turn down, like dog,but only because i've had dogs as pets and i would'nt feel comfortable about eating it.
but when it comes down to it,i'm not a great meat eater anyway, even back in the UK.

my friend has just returned from Patong, and he found a restaurant which sold ostrich.
he said it was very enjoyable.

i know when i took Nok to the zoo,she used to point to the animals and ask if i eat them at home.
when we got to the monkey's she told me that at her home they used to eat them.

<< X - cojones are excellent, you really should try them some time (seriously).   Of course with all this stuff there is the psychological aspect.>>

seubeu... cojones are balls right???  If no one told me what they were I'd be fine.... my problem's between my ears.

Nokna... ostrich meat is very common here, I assumed that it would be in the UK too. (then again, horsemeat's common here too and isn't in the UK).  I ate ostrich not knowing what it was and thoroughly enjoyed it... like regular steak.  Had I known what it was I wouldn't have ate it.  I'm dumb that way.

Hi X
ostrich meat might be popular in the UK,i don't know.
i'm not one for visiting restaurants, but i don't think i've ever seen it in the shops.
but there might be plenty of it around for all i know.

Ostrich is extremely good meat.. very lean and almost no fat.  Tastes like steak.  Highly recommended...

Went to a fusion Thai restaurant in Hong Kong (Windsor St. Thai) and they had a great dish with ostrich meat!

I had ostrich meat in a Chinese restaurant when I was in BKK. It was sliced and stir fried with vegetables. If my friend did not tell me that it was ostrich meat, I would have thought that I was eating beef. The look and texture were just like beef....very tasty too.
