Excellent observation Arramsey... I did think of Duke's but decided against including it simply because Bono is making his first trip and Thonglor is a bit out of the way. But you are absolutely right; Dukes does a very creditable job and I like the idea of supporting the "local" operations outside the big hotels whenever possible. Duke's is small, with an old fashioned ambience, "no surprises" food and might be the least costly place in Bangkok to get a US steak. (Frozen, but cooked correctly and very tasty).

An "OZ" steak would be one that originated in Australia; typically very good beef but grass fed (mainly) as opposed to grain fed (a la USA). Most of the steak joints offer both.

Got hungry when reading the 'Curry' thread and looked back to some old 'files'. Fancy a steak tonite and might try something new. Anybody with some new, out of the way suggestions? Know the most known ones but guess there are some hidden gems. Anybody?

I went to Chokchai Steakhouse Prasarmit on the first floor of an outside multi-level restuarant mall just north of Soi Cowboy. I don't remember the exact corner, but you go through Soi Cowboy going east and its a few blocks to the north. I had a domestic steak for 180 bhat. The steak was average. It came with one side. They had Australian and imported steaks that cost 300 bhat and up and they looked good. Its a nice location, being its close to Soi Cowboy.

That is not realy the 'out of the way gem' I was looking for. Thanks anyway.

I know its not a gem, but the imported steaks did look good and cost less than some of the other places mentioned. Its also close to Soi Cowboy, for those that want to have dinner and women in the same area. Its just another restuarant to choose from for anyone who reads this forum.

OK two weeks ago, at the JW Steakhouse, USA steaks are off of the menu. Asking the head waiter what the deal was, he said that their is an nationwide importation ban on USA beef because of mad cow disease. The Aussie steak was not as good. So I myself will wait until the ban is lifted.

Thanks RTB. Have never been there yet but should try it. At least a new venue to 'test'. A bit more in my direction as well.
