Why bother yourself searching for "english speaking " restaurants in Bangkok?
"In Rome do as the romans"......" in Bangko do as the other brothers: grab a nice piece of english speaking TG and all your problems will be over!"
PS: what about using the net to get familiar with thai food? There are plenty of websites featuring thai food with original thai names & phonetic english counterpart....

I have eaten in different restaurants along Sukhumvit many times and all the menus I have seen had either English or at least a picture of the food on it.
There is a pretty good little Thai restaurant in the basement of Times Square (between soi 12 and 14). The menu has English and pictures of all the dishes. Some of the dishes are Issan dishes (according to the TG I was with). The prices are reasonable and it opens 24 hours.

I'm sure you are the person I saw on the set of "Chicago".
Anyway an excellent eating place with a 100% English menu, cheap prices, and food from all over the world (including the best Gumbo that I have had in Asia) is Woodstock in NANA plaza - 2nd floor.
Just fight yourself past the LBs and it is just past the Carasole(?)

Try the "Supatra River House" - On Thonburi side of the Chao Phraya river and opposite Maharaj pier - 10:00-14:00 and 18:00-23:00 daily, (411-0305)!
I take a river taxi from the Oriental........
Great food, great atmoshere, and you might see some very interesting people - if you are lucky enough and your timing is right.....

From the responses I received I'm thinking I just had bad luck and visited the only 100% Thai language restaurants in town.
