Cafe Siam, 1. Difficult to find. 2. Food very average french (with a fusion touch) 3. Situated in an old colonial house that looks great from the outside but interior decoration a mixed bag. (E.G. Green lamp shades that makes everyone look like zombies) No real reson to recommend the place...

Heheh... I think restaurants do that so patrons can't complain about the food. "Waiter, I think this venison tongue stew marinated with pink truffle, kir, and pumelo citrus may be a bit off" Much of the fusion food tastes like I've had a big meal at a nice restaurant, burped, and tasted the mixture.

Have you been to Giusto on soi 23? Yes it's another Italian restaurant but a bit more trendy than the rest. PS- I second the recommendation for San Remo... really good pizza!

Giusto is nice I tend to go there lunch time. One funny thing is the large number of italian guys working in the place dressed in black suits which makes you feel like having lunch with Don. Corleone family ! Cheers

There is a bar on Soi 8 called 'Corleone's', complete with the Godfather logo. Was hoping it'd be an Italian restaurant but apparently it's a bar w/pool tables.

Giusto is very good. Toscana pizza beats San Remo IMHO. Corleones is good for a warm up beer before Lolitas!

Toscana & San Remo are at the bottom of the list of good Italian restaurants in Bangkok, together with many others tough.....I believe the number of good and trendy Italian restaurants is limited to 4/5...

I love Giusto. It is trendy, food is good and it is cheaper than Zanotti. Did anyone know that Zanotti and Saverino (the Maitre D and co owner of Giusto) used to work together at the Grappino Italian Restaurant at the Amari Watergate Hotel? By the way, Limoncello Soi 11 is also owned by Zanotti - a great pizza place. Be sure to reserve your seat, they are turning them over 2 - 3 times per evening. Meanwhile - anyone any input on New York Steakhouse at JW Marriott? I hear, it's still going strong and food and service are as good as ever

I would second Cyan as being cool and trendy; the food is excellent as well. I haven't been recently but I think La Scala at the Sukhothai meets your requirements. The best meal I've had in Bangkok recently was at the Madison at the Four Seasons; they've got a new chef and menu and it's significantly improved in my view. However although it's upscale, impressive, expensive and has good food, it's not quite cool and trendy. I went to Giusto once when it had just opened. Although it was cool and trendy, I was unimpressed by the food. Maybe I should give it another try.

Me personally not being Italian and not having terribly high standards (or wealthy), I'm usually okay with above-average Italian eateries in the medium price range - 150b-250b per pizza/pasta, per person. Toscana and Bella Napoli (both on Suk Soi 31) seem to fit the bill (no pun intended ) The only Italian rest. I've tried in BKK (ok, pathetic I know) is Duilio's, Suk Soi 49. Good authentic wood-fired Italian pizza, none of that Pizza Company or Pizza Hut crap, which definitely would not come under this topic, 'Cool Trendy Restaurants'. There is a new Italian place opening 'soon' at Thong Lo Soi 20/Ekkami Soi 21. Will write a review in the 'Extremely good Italian' restaurants thread when/if I get to go there.
