oh yes,
zanotti is rather cool, but can be very posh sometimes!
also a good italian restaurant is actually the 'cafe di roma' bang right on patpong below cleopatra a gogo!
certainly not the same quality as zanotti but if you sit at the windows for sure the best view to watch and observe the parade of katoys, punters and bargirls in all of bangkok.
there is nothing better than having a decent meal and being able to watch the patpong scene passing by! i am not a great fan of patpong anymore but this is really intrigueing for me! also most of the girls love it, as they are on full display in there, and which girl doesn't like to be looked at?
by the way for me the best original italian pizza in town, also good antipasta in there!

I am fond of Thai cuisine and especially seafood, and I normally don't eat any other stuff while in BKK.
So far, I've found the best Tom Yam Gung in the Sea Food restaurant directly at Ambassador's. The cook will preparate it on demand, according to your wishes, and she will add just as much herbs, spice, lemon grass and various seafood ingredients as you indicate.
Seafood must be as fresh as possible, and this Tom Yang Gung goes directly from the pot into the terrine - very delicous.
When ordering the Seafood Buffet at Ambassador's, you can have as much of anything as you want, for a reasonable price regarding the location. Having one or more BGs in companionship is no problem at all.
Does anybody has recommendations for other good seafood restaurants in BKK?

loquint - cafe di roma is located half way along Patpong 2, reasonable prices as well.
fritz - there's the seafood market also half way of sukhumvit 24...too touristy though...and pricey

for the best views in town try baiyoke sky hotel top floor restaurent in pratunam, but you can't really miss it as bkk tallest building I think...
decent tom yam gung at e.g. soi7 outdoor seafood place?, any decent food stall outside main tourist areas or the 24h thai restaurent in times sq. basement that also got a branch at phloenchit center?

there is even a better view available than the bayoke tower!
vertigo on the 63th floor of the banyan tree hotel is even more spectacular as it is the highest al fresco (open air) restaurant in the world. especially in the hot season it is quite nice up there as there will be always some breeze going.
beware, it is rather expensive with main courses around thb 800-1,200. but for sure a once in a lifetime experience!

The tallest building in Bangkok is the RCK tower (near Shangri-la, cannot miss it !). It was supposed to be the largest building in SEA for total sqm but maybe Shanghai has done better now.
There was a project to open a restaurant at the top with a "private club", I don't know if already completed.
Anyway I have visited an apartment there and the view is the best i have seen in BKK, like being in an airplane.
