With one of the world's highest concentrations of hotels already, the city of Bangkok must be very optimistic about future occupancy rates and such when it so coolly keeps adding to the hotel facilities. It appears to me that there would be no major threat to the survival, and even growth, of the nightlife scene, as some fear. I wonder how many believe Thailand -- minus its star attraction -- would continue to draw tourists by the tens of millions, whether business, medical or general, to justify all these new hotel and office facilities. P4P will continue to flourish if these massive investments are to pay back.

"The city of Bangkok" isn't the one making the decisions to over-build redundant facilities - nod to the same geniuses who believe that 23 optical stores, next to 8 7-11s, along with 14 travel shops, and 47 massage shops, all on the same city block, are a good idea. ;-)

I have noticed that a lot of the new hotels are being built with either Indian or Gulf money. Why???? They want to park their money somewhere fairly solid (like a building) where it can not be reached when the poor rise up like they did during the 'Arab Spring'. It was the same with Chinese money running up the prices of homes in OZ (at least until the PRC started limiting money flows overseas by government officials and entrepreneurs). Park the money in some houses and when they come knocking to drag you to the firing squad you can make a quick exit and still have assets available. It is a hell of a lot harder to freeze a building than it is to freeze a bank or securities account ...
