Hi guys,

I'd like to thank you for your recommendations and tips. I have tried some of the above mentioned restaurants during my last trip, and here is my personal top 3 list so far...

- Baan Khanitha in 36/1 Suk. Soi 23:

Best thai food, vey nice ambience and just incredibly good service. In fact, I can hardly remember any restaurant in the west with a comparable level of both unintrusive and courteous service. Prices are reasonable, but one should better make reservations upfront as it can get crowded...

- Nipa in the Landmark Hotel on Suk.

Again, another great Thai restaurant. Very nice atmosphere, good food and service. Traditional Thai live music played by three very lovely TGs, so Nipa has also some eye candy to offer...

- Seafood center at Nai Learn, opposite of Amari Boulevard Hotel:
Best of the various seefood centers I had tried so far, at least in my opinion. There are several indoor and outdoor restaurants at this location, I visited the first indoor restaurant when coming from Pantip Plaza. Basic interior and a bit indifferent waiters, but the food makes up for it...

Cheers,
J¸rgen

Vegas
My favorite is Tham Nan Thai at Times Square which is next to the Sheraton Suk.
Each time I am in LOS, I end up there again and again; the fact that they are open 24 hours really helps.
I know that I have recommended this place in other threads, but I have good memories of the food and the good times that I have spent there so I figure I owe them a good report.

Greyhound CafÈ Emporium 2nd floor
Chalkboard menu, imaginative Thai food

I went 3 times to Baan Khanitha in the last 3 weeks, and can recommend that anyone go there. Great food, staff and ambience. Though my bill usually came to about 3000 because of the red wine.

Another nice place is the Atrium buffet at the Landmark (think that's the name). Big selection of thai and western food. Though you can't smoke there, which annoyed me a lot as I need one after a nice meal.

Vegas
The Conrad Hotel in BKK has a fantastic buffet on the 2nd floor called "Cafe on 2". They also have an ala carte menu, but everyone goes for the buffet. Best buffet I've had ANYWHERE; and I live in Las Vegas!
Cafe on 2 has Thai, Sushi, and Western dishes (plus a great dessert selection) all prepared and presented in "gourmet" fashion.
I don't remember the exact price, but with a couple of drinks I think we spent about B1500 for 2 people. Well worth it since it was the best meal I've had in a while.
Conrad Hotel is on wireless road between the Vietnamese and American Embassies. Interesting positioning to any oldtimers who were here in the 60's.
Conrad is part of the Hilton company.Hilton's classier brother,so to speak.

sukhumvit boy
I have just got back from Bangkok and 2 restaurants I really liked were:
For Thai and Chinese food:Yong Lee's at the corner of Sukhumvit Soi 15,really fantasic food.
For Indian food:Akbar 1/4 Soi 3 Nananua.Really nice decor and great food.
I had a funny but not so funny at the time experience at Rachada seafood restaurant. We ordered food and waited 20 minutes and were starting to get really hungry. Then in the space of a few minutes FOUR different dishes were brought to out table that we didn't order.
By now I was getting really pissed and said I would just pay for the 2 orange juices we ordered and leave. While I was trying to make them understand what I meant our food suddenly arrived so we decided to eat.I have to say it was very ordinary, nothing special and then when I paid the bill we had to wait 10 minutes for them to bring the change.Needless to say all the coins and notes went straight into my pocket,no tip for such poor service.

lux

Four quick memories: An old lady who has a hole in the wall on the main strip near kao san road made the best fast fried seafood that I've ever had in this city. Near Peachy? Is she still alive?

Condoms and Cabs is a nice place to visit but the food seemed rather mediocre on my two visits. The sauces had too much sugar and too little character, and the meats and fish were clumsily cooked, or overcooked. Why do people still like this place?

In front of Rivercity, there is as mean mid thirties woman cook who handles fish dishes with a kind of hearty tough minded flair. She never smiles and the seating is not the most pleasant, but she knows how to cook.

Annies on Saladeng is effete and pretentious but I had one meal there two years ago that was -forgive an old man for his tears- moving. Old Thai favorites done with a Japanese touch.

Just off my head.

I agree...Cabbages and Condoms is just crap.

Over priced average food, with a reasonable ambience served to the farang market.

Best restaurant

Bung Wapee, Thanon Srinakarin
Baan Khlang Naam, Rama 3 Soi 114

Best on the farang circuit for me:

Baan Kanitha, Soi Ruam Rudee, but I'd choose either of the above over it any day.
