When the new people took over at Soi 8 they essentially doubled the prices of basic vegetarian dishes, & relative to Aunty quality halved. I found much better value & quality to be had in the vicinity at Dosa King on Soi 19...
Interesting take.
I found the food at Namuskaar (soi 8, Aunty's old location) quite good, but it is NOT the same style as Aunty's, which is definitely South Indian food. And Dosa King, before it's demise, was also oriented toward South Indian, although he claimed to have North Indian food as well.
As for prices, Aunty is still quite reasonable, although a bit higher than her location in Soi 10. Namuskaar is a MUCH upgraded venue, with air conditioning, nice decor, and big flat screen cable TV, so I don't begrudge him his prices. In fact, compared to the several Indian restaurants on soi 8, and nearby on Sukhumvit, his prices are on the low side.
I would suspect that Dosa King, when he re-opens on soi 11/1, will be at the higher end, as always. But I think it's worth it, because he has some very good Southern dishes, from dosa, to idli, etc. He will be up against Mrs Balbir's, though, which while more Northern influenced, is also a bit steep.
Gotta love Bangkok for food.

Been closed for several months now, a big hole where the building used to be on soi 19.
Anyone's guess as to when the new digs will be finished, but a peek inside revealed a pretty posh setup, with a mezzanine-level dining area, and a lot of wood inside. The smell of that solvent they use whenever there are renovations being done was enough to knock a mahout off his elephant at 20 paces, so they must be working deliriously to get it done in time for high season...
