The best-taste beef in the world comes from Argentina. No magic there. It is just that the catle there grazes on what in other places is a fancy dietary supplement. I do not know the name. But it is one of those funky grasses or pastures or whatever you call what cows eat.

But, the best beef I have ever eaten in all my life was a 12 month buffalo heifer in Oz, the tastiest, the juiciest, the tenderest, the flavouriest ? and it smelt damn fine as well. I will never forget the arse end of that sweet little heifer. It was also prepared in the most unconventional way as well, so all you people who claim it has to be prepared like this or like that, well, it does not. Just get your hands on an Ozzie arse end and you will be begging for moooore.
Afraid not, the JW now only carries Oz beef and it is not as good as USA beef, and judging from the heifer's in these pastures over here, there is one thing the USA knows how to do well and that is fatten beef.
Hey Smegs I have not tasted Agentina beef, any places in LOS serving this?
Agreed Sizzler is not the place for a good steak.

There is a steak restaurant that pretends to be Argentinian: El Gaucho. Behind the Intercontinental I think it is. But they have neither the Argentinian beef nor the cuts. Only place I found Argentinian beef outside Argentina is in South America's capital in the USA: Miami. Both at a Uruguayan restaurant in Coral Gables and in an Argentinian butcher's shop in South Miami, FL years ago. Most of the time the beef coming from Argentina is according to USA cuts, as this way it seems it is more marketable to the final consumer.

My last dining experience at the JW in June was a fiasco. It cost me over 3k baht for 1 person and the steak (tenderloin with foie gras and port sauce) was the worst I ever had. It tasted just like a frozen steak. I am a big steak guy and now are trying to find a replacement place for my steak fix in Bangkok. If anyone has a great experience at any of the steak places please let me know. Price is not important in my consideration since most good steak places in the U.S cost over $70 (with a glass of wine, tips...).

You may find a good steak in LOS, but its really hard to find a great steak and find it consistently. In Los I generally, but not always I admit, eat Thai because that is what they really know how to do. Tony Roma's has consistent product. Not great but at least good. By the way, in the USA I can get a great steak for $25. Just means I have to cook it myself and open the wine myself.

Agreed, the best steak is usually the one you make yourself. For one thing you know what you like. In the U.S you get great quality of beef for a very reasonable cost. The cost of cooking the steak is not the issue, rather the cleanup that is kind of a pain. Also cooking the steak usually stinks up the apartment. Since you gave me a good tip for HK, if you are ever in San Francisco, I recommend the House of Prime Rib. The best Prime Rib in the world and all the fixin (salad, bread pudding and potato) included. The only downside is that the wait is really long unless you make reservation way in advance.

The House of Prime Rib is my SF favorite. Located just the other side of the Tenderloin but an OK neighborhood. Have had many great evenings there is the last few years when my son lived in SF. I appreciate your recommendation as it brings back so many good memories. I wish I could only get to SF more these days.

steak, I urge all of you to try Great American Ribs Tenderloin, rare... medium rare at most. tender and juicy and at a great price.
I've tried all the steak just about everywhere here in BKK. just recently went back to JW and Vertigo; to show some clients out, verdict: steak was good at best; ambiance, setting, and view (Vertigo) is the kicker...
as I come from nyc, my favorite place is in Brooklyn, called Peter Luger's... fantastic porterhouse, you order it rare or blue, plate is so hot with just a little oil tilted on the plate, if you rub the meat on it, it will be medium rare or medium in a few seconds... excellent...
oh yeah, as I was talking to Wes over at above mentioned G.A. Ribs; they will have a new item on the menu to cover all of you standing rib roast eating fans (no its not prime rib, since it doesnt come from prime beef) but its great, meant for 2-4 persons (depending on the person)... will be there near X-mas time; got a sample of it at a friend of ours birthday celebration...
