Quote: from Abrak on 5:38 pm on July 22, 2004 Met one of the waitresses on her day off. Some additional info. 4. The house music DJ at Distil (who was being paid Bt50,000 a night!!) was sacked after less than 2 weeks and has been replaced by - you guessed it - a hip hop DJ (probably costing Bt1,000 a night)
Are you kidding me ! 50K no way....... By the way I know one of the waitress too....... do we have only 1 degree of separation Cheers

Has anyone tried the new Italian restaurant above Sirocco. Called something like Mescaluna? It opened on the 16th. I think the food is pretty average at Sirocco (although prices are premium) and am hoping that the new Italian will be Zanotti (etc.) standard. One thing I know is that it will not be cheap. A waitress I know there told me that the Italian was more expensive than Sirocco because they imported ingredients from Italy everyday. (Sirocco charges Bt1900 for a main course with local crab.) Anyway, if anyone has been.. please post a review.. good or bad. (They seem to feed the staff well there. This waitress seems to have put on at least 5kgs since she started working there.)

For quiet romantic dinner for two, you and your honey bf/gf whatever. I recommend Vertigo at Banyan Tree, over Sirocco at States Building. Since Vertigo is a little bit more private, perfect for marriage purposal, the food is great pricey but you get what you pay for. Staffs are well traied and the table set up/ chinawares are really trendy and much nicer than cheaper ones Sirocco use. The food at Sirocco is average-pricey. Group of 4 and more would be perfect for Sirocco. The atmostphere is nice, great view BUT way too many seats, noisy, too many people walking back and fort also tourist comes up taking photos of the view. it is kind of ruining the moment. Staffs are new and anxious. Mistaken on few orders, but replace later. The restooms are normal to unimpressive.

What both have in abundance (Vertigo and Sirroco) is breathtaking views and scores high on the WOW factor. Similarly they are both overpriced for average to mediocre food and ok service. Chose a slow night for Vertigo as they cannot cope with a sell-out. Anyhow, now tis not the season for open restaurants chaps....could be quite a washout. Plus - who would call a brand spankers restaurant after a questionable 1980's VW? Coulda been worse I guess.... Mondeo or some such. An aside...why did Ford in the eighties insist on naming most of their cars after UK low quality wank mags?

Interesting how branding can take over and change people's perception and give them the wrong kind of knowledge. No, the restaurant is not named after the car. The car was named after the wind. Yes the wind. Sirocco or scirocco is a strong southerly to southeasterly wind that carries hot, dry and dusty air from North Africa towards the Adriatic Sea and southern Europe. Right Caronte? The more humid scirocco reaching the south of France is known as the marin. Right Singlolo? It makes sense to have the restaurant named after the wind. It is windy up there.
