Again I point out that it is you who has made a habit of specifying nationality. And I hardly think that eating anything other than Thai food is equal to rejection of Thai culture. Ý

right, but that was not my point specifying other nations. i just wanted to make comparisons. sure there is nothing wrong about eating non-thai food in thailand as i do myself! i just got sick of those threads like where do i find the best ribs at tony roma, where is the best turkey, what is cheeseburger like in thailand things. I have never seen any asian or european brother asking this sort of stuff on this board! (sorry for mentioning others again!)

This thread is about where to eat turkey on Thanksgiving. I find it hard to believe that you say that is "glorifying" the USA. When I lived in Hong Kong I put up with the oddities of British eating habits for 7 years. I had friends who would go to the ends of the earth just to buy one particular brand of f_cking baked beans for the "english fry-up" (heinz beans). Or the Stilton, or other bizzare bits of food. Point is, we all need some comfort food once and a while. I spend 50% of my time travelling, and I need a burger once in a while. Not every day, and not McDonalds. Don't infer that something is wrong with that, and especially don't infer that I am trying to "glorify" American culture for feeling that way. Personally I don't give a f_ck about American "culture". I just want to know where to get a good burger if I want one (there is nothing worse than eating a REALLY BAD one). So I think some of us on here need to lighten up a little bit. This was a pretty innocent thread to start out with!!!

sorry, for teasing about this question in the first place. i did not expect this thread going that way, as i did not expect anybody getting off on this that easy! so best thing would be just cooling it down again. for the sake of the discipline of this board i myself will!

See that's the problem Griffin. I'm so damn tired of people making assumptions about me because I am American. I have lived all over the world and have members of my immediate family who are Europeans. I don't care even a little bit where someone is from and I have made a life where my nationality is virtually irrelevant. You were clearly making an effort to voice the usual, (and often accurate) complaint about American arrogance, cultural chauvinism and ignorance. I have seen many Europeans who share all those traits and are extremely intolerant of the differences they find in Thailand. I know for a fact that this type of attitude is not exclusive to Americans. But I don't care to complain about it every chance I get and I certainly never would on this forum. Until now I haven't seen anyone make an issue of nationality on this board. Then came your unsolicited comment and of course on another thread someone else chimed in with a comment about Americans -- which you quickly supported. I don't think that's a coincedence -- I think it happened because of your comment. I think that kind of thing is easily started and difficult to stop. And I think it would ruin this forum.
