Vertigo and Sirocco are 2 great places but IMHO they are ridiculously expensive for what you get. Definitely worth visiting at least once to check them out but I would not be rushing back...... But they are still popular...... tried to book a table last saturday and they had a sitting for 10.45pm!!! yes, that late..... It seems that there are a lot of people willing to splash the cash............

The Normandie Grill, French restaurant located in pseudo-dining cars on the roof of the Oriental Hotel. One of the few restaurants in Bangkok that still strictly enforces the jacket and tie rule. Highly recommended.

I agree with Jack Attack. TSUNAMI is trendy and cool - very contemporary. I have been there last night - food is great, but it has a price (Sushi Section). The Teppanyaki section offeres a welcome variety from other Teppan Restaurants and prices are very good, considering what you get. Both Restaurants were fully booked - reservations appear a must. They run a promotion Friday's and Saturday's called "Sushi Rocks" from 9.30pm onwards at the Sushi and Sake Bar with excellent DJ.music.

I went to Cy'an at Metropolitan on Sth. Sathorn last weekend. Restaurant is in keeping with Metropolitan's minimalist image..except the price which was maximalist!! (8000Bt for meal for two +wine). Food was reasonable & well presented, staff were very attentive - although it was late on Saturday night and the restaurant was not busy at all. It seems to be a trendy place to be - a couple of east european model-types were at the next table with their 'agent/manager?'. The Metropolitan also has a bar that seemed to attract the young, yuppie crowd. Not sure what the bar is like as I did not go in, merely observed the beautiful people gettting in/out of taxis. Has anyone stayed at The Metropolitan - I like the style of the place but not sure whether it is more image than substance?

Try the Normandie at lunch. 3 course set menu Bt990. Unbeatable. And you dont need a jacket and tie.

Never ever been to Normandie - the jacket & tie puts me off. If I am down by the river it would be nice to pop in. I bought "Thailand Best Restaurants 2004" last month and plan to work my way through that. Reasonable info. & some of the restaurants mentioned in there get good reviews on here. Anyone tried Jesters?
