The Italian Places I know are Giusto, La Gritta and Rossini. I would rate Rossini the best food and service wise but the cooking is rather "sophisticated" definitely not the place for a normal pizza. La Gritta is ok, but nothing special. Giusto is also good, but puts a very high emphasis on style and design.

Plenty of Italian restaurants in town but somehow, they all miss something and they all suffer from the same problem/mistake: little quantity of original and prima quality ingredients mix with lots of local stuff.....if you've tasted the original Italian food, then you can only eat the Italian food in LOS knowing that you won't get the best... Let's take the issue of making a good pizza: fresh ingredients, good hoven and pine wood those are the 3 keys to et a great pizza...what we have here in LOS? Avarage ingredients, reasonable hoven but no way to find Mediterranean pine wood! There you go, 2 out 3 and the masterpiece is gone! Oh, finally, a not secondary issue is the management of the owners..... I'm waiting now to try the new coming restaurant in soi 33...

Just a note about Gianni... it is good. was there with Calzoid, ManuelBKK and breif visit from Tyler & Kev. food and atmosphere is great and Thai waiter really was huslting and enjoying himself. Risotto is vey easy to make but very difficult to make very well. They do a nice job of it here. Caronte, I agree about ingredients and the true nature of locality on the ultimate taste of food. But let's face it, you cannot get any or all the ingredients and be able to replicate any ethnic cuisine properly outside the home country. That includes the water that may be used in pizza dough preparation or even salt. which olive oil is used will always have an effect. I try to go to every restaurant with the idea that they will prepare something that I find special to that restaurant regardless of the type of cuisine. If I find it, I will speak well of it. If not, I may give the place a second chance but after that, it's history. And if service sucks, I quickly forget how good the food is. Bad service will ruin the best cuisine IMO.

Gianni's is great. IMHO they serve the best Italian food (but I am not really an expert). However, the atmosphere sucks. For a start Gianni takes up about half the restaurant. And then there is a problem with most of the tables - too near the door, too near the toilet etc... Finally, the crowd is usually business/bouffant khunying's... not much to look at...

Abrak, Know what you mean about Gianni's ambiance but it really reminds me more of a European eatery that way. If it were in Spain, Italy or France, it would be close tables and everyone watching everyone else... and a lot more cigarette smoke!

Hmmmm... interesting.... I wonder whether the pizzas come exclusively from Zanotti or from either Zanotti or Lemoncello (same owners). (IMHO Lemoncello's pizzas are even better). Zanotti and Lemoncello have both withdrawn from http://www.foodbyphonebkk.com. They told me that was because they were too busy but I guess that it was that they prefered to set up in competition. Difficult to get the pizzas to you in 20 mins from Zanotti but possible from Lemoncello at Suk soi 11.
