Oh I don't know....one of the X Man has been SMSing me constantly, baiting me to get back again....confirming his log in name, little clues to his password, taunting.....

seems he wants me back......

But it's OK, I've discussed it with Bimmher and I'm keeping away as I have done for a while....

I wonder how the other members of the secret society will feel when they hear one of their own is again sticking his head above the parapet?

By the way, what would you smoke with such an avatar?

Just my opinion and fact mixed in..

But Main differences between Oz and US beef is Oz beef is much leaner thus a little less tasty but more healthy.

Whereas Japanese beef is very fatty, the cows drink beer everyday and get a massage...I shit u not.. But the beef is very nice. And not only Kobe beef that is just in an image here that all Japanese beef comes from Kobe..

But u cant eat Japanese beef as a steak as it is so damn fatty..but is great when eaten as yakiniku..

kinkjp, I'll have to agree on your assessment. When you think about it most Aus beef is grown on large stations with little amounts of quality, unless supplemented feed, leading to a leaner animal with less fat and therefore some lesser FAT taste. But genetics also account for fat / taste and Australias ongoing cross-breeding with Wasu is showing excellent results.
One VERY important fact left out of this discussion is MAD cow disease,, the American and European producers,in trying to compete with their Australian and South American ( especially Argentina and Brazil),have put consumers at great risk and it will take a long time to regain consumer confidence.

I,m very lucky,, I pay the equivalent of 270 BHT per Kilo ( 2.2 lbs for the non-metricised people ) to get TOP quality, non mad-cow, T-bone steak.

Villa sells Thai french beef. Best steaks I have had. A little butter and garlic rubbed on the meat. Self cooked on the BBQ. Exactly the way I wanted it. Baked potato done in tin foil in the coals and a lump of garlic bread on the side. Perfect.
Beat that Mr restauraunt owner.

Report from Bangkok Post dated Saturday 16 June 2007 :-

Prime US beef on the menu
=====================

An importer of US beef is preparing to use Certified Angus Beef (CAB) as a flagship product to reinstate its position as a market leader in Thailand.

US beef has lost a significant share in the Thai market since it was banned in 2003 due to mad cow disease. Though the ban was lifted early last year, response has been slow and Australian beef still dominates local sales.

The frozen food importer Tohkaiya was appointed as the sole distributor of CAB, the US premium grade beef brand, in the Thai market in April, said Daisuke Shimojima, the Japan-based senior manager of the international division for the American Angus Association, the organisation representing America's 35,000 Angus cattle ranchers.

Thailand is the latest market for CAB, which has been sold about 220,700 tonnes to 40,000 restaurants in 50 countries.

Tohkaiya plans to sell around 20,000 kilogrammes of the CAB brand in the first year. It is a supplier to modern-trade retail stores, steakhouses, hotel restaurants and restaurant chains of the Minor Group.

Mr Shimojima said the target customer groups included international tourists, five-star hotels and steakhouses.

Thailand imported about 1,300 tonnes of beef from Australia last year, 527 tonnes from New Zealand, and only about 44 tonnes from the United States.

Report from Bangkok Post dated Saturday 4 August 2007 :-

Sizzler shifting focus from outlet expansion to renovation
========================================

Sizzler Limited, a subsidiary of the Minor Food Group, has put the brakes on outlet expansion and plans instead to renovate existing restaurants. Marketing director Nongchanok Stananonth said that normally the company opened three of four new outlets a year. But this year, a shortage of prime retail locations has reduced the number of new restaurants to one.

The slowing economy was also a factor in the decision to postpone opening new outlets until next year, she added.

However, it will switch its investment budget of about 20 million baht plus with another budget to renovate existing outlets in Siam Center, Central Rama III, Major Pin Klao, Future Park Rangsit and SCB Park Plaza locations, to feature a new causal dining atmosphere.

The company also wants to increase traffic from its regular customers, which declined after the New Year's Eve bomb blasts in Bangkok caused some people to cut back on eating away from home. Visits gradually improved in April but demand in June and July has slowed again and the company says forecasting the trend for the rest if the year is difficult.

''Therefore, our core business strategy this year is to maintain our existing customers,'' said Ms Nongchanok. ''In the current economic environment and with lower customer purchasing power, increasing the frequency of our loyal customers' visits to our restaurants is easier than attracting new customer groups.''

Apart from store renovation, the company has introduced an ''Everyday All Day'' promotion with special 169-baht meals at all 29 branches until Oct 31.

The company expects that the promotion will help increase the frequency of regular customers' visits to two or three per month from one to two, and also draw new diners.

The total number of customer visits to Sizzler this year is expected to increase by 20-25% to five million.

Mrs Nongchanok said the company would resume opening new outlets both in Bangkok and the provinces next year.

I was at the Landmark's RR&B a few nights ago. The view is great. 1 hostess was pretty hot. I got 15% off for using AE. That's all the positives I can say.

The steak (Au 240 days 350g ribeye) was pretty average. I think I've had better in Outback or ~$20 USD run of the mill steak dinner restaurants. I don't know the current quality of the NY SteakHouse in JW. But when I tried it a few years back, it was definitely better.

Not sure if a different type of steak/import would be better.

Le Beaulieu restaurant in Sofitel Residence Asoke.

I had the Australian tenderloin filet which was just about the most tender steak I have ever been served. A "butter knife steak" is what we would call it back home.

Grilled exactly to order.

1050 baht... not inexpensive.
