The protest referred to BK'S post was the result of the recent Thai Gov. attempt to stop the eating of Dog meat.
The recent Gov. crackdown was motivated by a very interesting and amazing event, as reported in the Kom Chutluk newspaper 5-6 weeks ago. This lady comes home from work to discover her dog missing from her fenced in yard. She speaks with her Security guard who saw her dog being taken away in a pick up truck, the guard said he had spoken with the theives and said they were from Ta Rae District. (Typical security doing nothing to stop the theft) The lady jumps in her car and makes the drive to Ta Rae after searching the various slaughter areas she finds her dog caged awaiting its demise. She identified herself and claimed her dog and was refused the animals return by the butcher. She went to the police and they did what ever was necessary to gain the dogs release. There after she started writing and complaining to Gov officials.
The eating of dog meat is very limited in Thailand and definitly opposed by the vast Thai majority.

kjayson7,
You are more than entitled to your opinion but please be broad-minded in your approach to other nations customs and culture. Many Koreans, who think nothing of eating dog flesh, would consider some Western food equally disgusting, such as black puddings.
Also bear in mind that most Thai restaurants in Western countries serve Thai food that has been "Westernised" in order to make it more appealling. When I ate authentic Thai food for the first time in Bangkok I was amazed at the flavours.
Try to open your mind to different aspects of life outside the areas you are currently in and you will be richly rewarded.

I think I will let someone else clue you in on the surprise you've got in store for you once you walk outside the airport to catch a taxi to your hotel . Peace

kjayson7,
Chilli is a way of life in Thailand just like Buddhism, the Royal Family and traffic jams. Embrace it, get used to it and ultimately enjoy it. I simply look in the food carts and order what I think looks nice and then I eat it. If I like it, I try to remember what it was like so I can order it again and if I don't like it I don't have it again. So far, I have yet to find anything I did not enjoy.
The same with eating insects - I tried it once to see if I liked it and I was surprisingly impressed so I intend to eat many of them again soon.

kjayson7,
In my opinion, all Thai food is good food. I have no specific recommendation so again I suggest you just try something from a food cart. A meal there costs around 20 baht so if you don't like it then throw it in the bin and buy something else.
Maybe you would like simple barbequed chicken and sticky rice.
